im not stuffing this year. i'll just season it and then baste every now and then

spooky is out of a job then.

I though she was talking about the two of you and activities before the meal ....

oh i thought it was about spooky switching to turkeys on that day from sheep.

there is a time of year when turkeys are simply lined-up for insemination ... for some reason thanksgiving day doesn't seem to fit ... there again I could be wrong ...

0h dear!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

so 6-8 hours in water, but now it's already on water, should i put it back in the fridge and take it off tonight?

just fill the sink with water and put it in there. drain and refill every 30-45 mins til thawed.

but that'll be like 20 hours til i start cooking

yeah I was wondering about this too

I keep getting conflicting answers.....is it ok to put the turkey back in the fridge after thawing it in cold water? :S

Future .... put the frozen bird in the fridge on Monday when you get home from work ...

If using the cold water method ... defrost as amber suggested ... and cook. If it takes 1+ hour to prepare after thawing to cook ... toss into fridge and keep cool (it should be fine). Some recipes want the bird to reach room temp then be cooked (reach temp ... not dwell at temp).

This has worked for me/my mom/adopted mom/grandmom/ for more years than I've been alive.

Just use your common sense and don't let the food out for longer than required. If in doubt ... keep in the fridge ...

It's going to be a lovely day! We've been doing this since I can remember, and it's one of the things I missed most in all those years living abroad!

I've spent my entire holiday, so far, cleaning my mom's house to get it ready for the guests. I'll probably spend the rest of it cleaning up afterwards. But it's worth it for the leftovers alone. What's this about turkey not being good the day after?

Happy Birthday to your son and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!! Nice to see the "balanced" cuisine for the holiday. We are doing something similar with a group of Indo/American couples. Traditional fare with Indonesian specialities. I was asked to grill some fish for a particular "sambal" tonight. Gas grilling? no....Needed to be charcoal...Cold and windy as he!!....The things I do for the love of my life!!!
