question about applying for citizenship

Do I need to pick up a NEW marriage certificate? The one I have right now was issued in December of 2007.

How much proof do I need to send in? Off hand, I'm thinking about tax returns, lease, bank accounts, car title. Would that be enough? Also, how many years does the proof have to cover?

Check the list of things that are required to be send in with your N-400; it's not that much.

If you are applying after 3 years based on marriage to a USC, send something that shows that you are still happily married and live together. Don't go gagga over this like with the AOS and I-751; your (presumably) jointly filed income tax returns alone do most of the documenting.

If you send them a 3-inch thick file they come, pick you up, lock you up in a nuthouse, and throw the key away, rightfully so!

Most importantly, if you also want to keep your German citizenship, I hope you already have your BBG at hand!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Sven is right. Just mail in what they ask for and no more. At the interview, I just gave the more recent versions of what I sent in when I removed conditions. And those went only a couple of months back...if that. They barely glanced at it. The bank account statements and the joint title to my car were the most interesting to them and they took the copies I made of those.

Thanks you all. Yeha, I haven't applied for the BBG yet, but I'm not worried about that.

I still don't knwo if I need to pick up a NEW marriage certificate? I guess I'll just use the old one. I read somewhere that it needs to be the "current" certificate  Whatever that means.

Sven. I urge you to reconsider the BBG thing. If the ###### here ever hits the fan, you'll be glad to be able to stay longer in any European country longer than 90 days. Also, don't forget the "Rente." Ever seen some veteran living in a cardbox?

Your marriage certificate is the current one, unless you married another chick after 1997, that is.
