Frequent flyer miles

The first 3 trips I took I flew United all the way but this time I am taking United on the first leg then Korean Air. On the way back I am taking Korean Air then Northwest. I would rather have all my frequent flyer miles on one airline is this possible? If so how would I do it.?

When I purchase the tickets on cheaptickets. they already had my united ff number and I had just registered with northwest and got a ff number and entered both those numbers when I purchased the ticket but I didn't have one for Korean air so I left that blank. But now that I think about it I would rather have all the miles with United or United and Northwest if possible. Not sure if they are locked in when I purchased my ticket or not.

Has anybody ever flown Korean air? I have googled it and they say the food is bad unless you get the Korean food that is really good. I have also heard they have a bad saftey record. Even though this is my 4th trip I still get nervious every time I fly.

Korean Air has to be a code share flight for you to get miles with United or Northwest. If the Korean Air flight number is a United Airlines number or a Northwest Flight number then you can get the frequent flyer miles on the according company. For example, I take American Airlines all the time and I have frequent flyer miles with them. My 1st leg from Texas to Japan I take an American Airlines plane. From Japan to Vietnam they put me on JAL but my flight number is still An AA flight number so I get to collect miles even from the Japan Airlines side because it's a code share flight. My last trip to Vietnam my flight was delayed because of weather so they booked me a flight with a different airlines on my second leg. 1st leg was American Airlines, 2nds leg was Vietnam airlines but it wasn't a code share flight. When I looked at my miles after the flight they only gave me miles for the 1st leg with American. So it does depend if the airlines have an alliance with each other and also if the flight numbers are a code share flight for you to collect miles on them.

I have Delta Skymiles account and the last time I flew Korean air, Delta wouldnot provide miles credit because the seats were coach... even though they have an alliance and code share.. the actual flight was a Korean Air code... I fought for 3 months trying to get the credit for my son and I ..no luck.. I dont like Delta... bad service, small seats and not a nice miles program.... The flight this week is AA and JAL.. do they have a decent miles program?

so for an example this is not my flight number but an example. United airlines 6645 but the number to Korean airlines is Korean Air 32 the northwest flight number s northwest airlines 7532. So since they all have different flight numbers I cannot combine?

United and Korean airlines are NOT code share partners... you will not get United miles for the Korean Airline segments.

Get a Delta (now owns Northwest) Skymiles account. You cannot combine the Symiles with United or AA (unless they merge at some point in the future). Korean is in the Skymiles network, but as Scott says you need to check.

At the very least give the agent your Skymiles number when you check in for Korean/NW.

Since I new have a nw number can I just use that for my Korean ff miles or do I have to get delta and if I get delta?

get a Delta skymiles account and then merge your NWA account into that one. You will then have all your old NWA miles, new NWA miles and new Delta miles. And hopefully the KA miles, too (go to the Delta website and read about KA miles eligibility).

Get a KAL skypass account just in case Delta skymiles does not accept your KAL flight.. at least you can get some credit for it.. may never use it but it is there in case... Delta is funny about what they allow and like Todd and Roger said a skymiles account is the easiest way to combine Delta, NW and KAL flight mileage...

When you check in at both ends.. make sure you discuss the frequent flyer account with CSR's as well as at each layover... easier dealt with then than later/...
