Hi guys,

I'm just wondering what Hicham should bring with him when he comes. He has his birth certificate with a translation... does he need his results from his medical or is that in the envelope they told him not to open? Will he need his vaccination records? Should he try to get that from Khadija the doctor who did his medical for the interview?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The medical is in the envelope.

If he can find his vaccination records and have them officially translated into english, that will help since you'll need it for the AOS. But, if you don't have it, it's not the end of the world. My husband didn't have any vaccination records and just got poked again from the county health people for cheap.

Not related to the AOS, but if he has a college degree, he should get as much documentation of it as he can - course syllabi, letters from the college, an official copy of the degree, official transcript. He may need to have it evaluated once he gets here, which is nice to put on the resume.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll post more if something else pops into my head.

I second that on the vaccination records. If he has proof of the Measles, mumps, rubella (rubeole, rougeole, and some other word I can't remember), then it's great to bring that with him and maybe get it translated before he leaves. Also, a record of the tetanus vaccination is needed. Otherwise, he will have to have all of these vaccines all over again once he applies for AOS.

Also, if he had translations already done of the birth certificate and any other paperwork, PLEASE make copies and bring those for AOS. Amed forgot to do so and it took us a while to straighten that out.

In addition, if he has a driver's license, I would recommend getting that translated as well. In my state, if you don't have proof of a prior license, you have to have a permit for 6 months before you can apply for a license. And that's AFTER you meet the paperwork requirements for a license or state ID. However, with Amed's Algerian driver's license he can go ahead and take the test and if he passes, he'll get his regular license.

Good luck! I'm so excited for y'all!

Oh thanks! That's good to know about his drivers licence. I didn't know that.

So should he call up the doctor where he had his vaccinations and get a copy and have it translated? I think he had 3 shots before his interview.

Thankssss guys you're all a huge help as usual!

Well, see if his doctor gave him a vaccination certificate. Amed got one from his doctor right before his interview in Algeria, and he brought it with him. One of those vaccines was the tetanus vaccine, which is required for AOS.

However, according to our civil surgeon, if you've had the MMR vaccine after the age of 1, you don't have to have it again, so if he's had that, it's best to get a vaccination record from his family doctor stating that, and then get that translated. Otherwise, he'll have to have that vaccine again. It was like $60 here.

Thanks guys!

I'm so excited but the time is passing soooo slow before he comes

Enjoy these last few days you have as a single woman! Spend lots of time with friends, family, doing things you love, cause when Hicham gets here, there is so much time devoted to helping him adjust and settle in that you don't have anytime for much of anything else.

Then the day will come and it will be sweet :luv:

Sarah,

I didn't take time to read the other responses so most if not all might be repeats, but I thought I'd write up a list I can think of for you:

Copy of Hicham's vaccinations (there is a form he can have them write it on but I can't remember now), I probably have on my laptop so ask me later and I will look for it if you need it.

Copy and translation of the following:

Criminal Record

Education Degrees and etc.

Job Letters or Certifications to prove experience in case needed later

References - he could use for jobs

Have Hicham bring all his evidence and papers he took to his interview so he has it for his AOS.

Passport

Drivers License

Moroccan ID

Have Hicham copy on a CD any files on his computer he wishes to save or could need for AOS

List of everone's phone numbers besides what he has on his cell phone. Also have him get addresses and e-mail addresses. (This includes for past jobs, schools and references)

I'd have him buy clothes like jeans, long underwear (if you have any cold in CA, lol), dress shoes or any clothes he can get a lot cheaper there in Morocco than here in the states. I asked Karim to be careful with the items he brought because I didn't want him to have any troubles at the border. He didn't bring any food/spices and etc. or any cooking items that would be breakable and thought to be possible weapons if he broke. He instead packed all the gifts and metals in his checked luggage and left those out of his carry on. I wasn't about to let anyone stop him from joining me for him to bring a Tajine or couscous bowl which I didn't have room to take back. Karim also brough gifts for my family and me.

And on a personal note, make sure he brings any items he can't live without now. He can think about that for a few days and come up with items I am sure. Especially items we can get here very easily.

Well that's what I can think of fast, if I think of more I will let you know.

But most importantly I think he should get you Sarah an extra special gift and a birthday gift ;). LOL

Thanks for this!!! I would have never known to ask Medy to get his driver's license translated... I don't know why, everything else has to be translated!!! :D

Thank you everyone for your help.

I already sent Hicham to have his birth certificate translated...

so now he should also get his carte nationale, drivers permit, and police certificate done too. Time is running out!!!

Just curious why does he need his police report again?
