As an US citizen i plan to marry a Swedish citizen. My question is...i am a disabled veteran living in section 8 housing for the past 10 years. I understand that my chances to be her sponsor are not looking good so i was thinking of having my friend as her sponsor. Will my friend be charged any fees, should he become a sponso. we are reading and reading and so far everything looks so difficult..but we both feel that surely it is not that difficult to get a k-1 visa..

Please help us out here..

Peace

Your friend will not be charged any fees to co-sponsor.

However, you as the petitioner MUST be primary sponsor and provide an I-134 for her visa interview, your friend will also provide an I-134.

Later when adjusting status, you will provide an I-864, and you can use your friend as a joint sponsor and they will also provide an I-864.

Note: I-134 is NOT filed with I-129F, it is later needed at the interview.

Moving this post.

No "fees" to "become" the sponsor. However, once she's here and your friend signs the I-864 needed to be joint sponsor for her adjustment of status, he/she will take on the contractual obligations stated on the I-864 itself. So, they'll want to actually read those and make an informed decision. Their potential obligation, worst case, is for their lifetime.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
