I was amazed to see that you have the same old lady on your notes as we have on ours. She must be really important. Who is she?

That's my grandmother!

I used to tell my grandmother that she looked exactly like the queen.

The banks here don't know what to do with that funny money so I agree that you should send it to the mouse.

Trailmix - don't forget to send me my half.

:secret:

I was outside the queen's house last week when I went to London for my medical. Actually as a British taxpayer it is my house cos we pay for it and let her live there for free. She didn't invite me in for a cup of tea. I think I'll evict her and sell it to pay for my next trip to America!

And Ant, i'm sure they would probably let you in with an American Passport and a Canadian citizenship certificate - but hey, it's 5 years away, they may well change everything up by then and we will all have a microchip behind our left ear.

Trailmix-Thanks for your reply. Hope that is the case, that they will let me through after 2014..with an American Passport Card, Outdated Canadian Citizenship Card, and Expired Canadian Passport....lol....At least I can get back home to the USA though..they can't kick me out of here as of tomorrow...I'm here to stay in the USA!

 Good idea about the microchip though....Think the USA will come out with that one first before Canada does! (or maybe they already have..lol..they already have fingerprints on green cards..so microchips don't seem so long away..)

I'm just hoping that on the Canadian side they offer 10 yr passports (instead of 5yr ones..what a rip-off!) and a low-cost passport card option (lol..a $45 card is better than a $100 book, and a card is more convenient too), like they do here in the USA, and that they get rid of the darn guarrantor thing for getting a Canadian passport (lol..I can't afford another 'bribe' for one)....That's my wish for PassportCanada before 2014....lol...wishful thinking.. :star:

Ant

Actually, the US passport cards and the enhanced Driver's Licenses of both countries contain the equivalent of a microchip right now. Technically, they can track you anywhere if you are carrying one of these. I actually carry my passport card with me because I can use it as easy proof of US citizenship if I am required to do so. My passports stay safely at home unless I am travelling internationally.

Oh, and Passport Canada is moving towards 10 year passports. I believe it is to be implemented next year.

I was commenting on the statement where it's to go behind our left ear.

I renewed my Cdn passport earlier this year, was a very easy process. Bit more difficult if ya let it expire though

Flames-Difficult, how so? Lol..I can't renew my Canadian passport if it is still valid for 4+ out of 5 years, as I just renewed it this year! Did you need a guarrantor when you renewed your passport? How long should I wait to renew it if I do renew it? At the 5 year mark? At the 4.5 year mark? Earlier? Later? At all?

Ant

You don't need a guarantor anymore (professional). Just someone who has known you for 2+ years that isn't a family member.

they also have to be a Canadian citizen with a passport

Not if the last passport was issued in Canada (ie: it states that it was issued in Canada)

References (section 5) Provide TWO (2) references. Friends, co-workers and neighbours may be used as references provided they have known you for at least TWO (2) years. Relatives may not be used as references.

ok I get it now, for the simplified renewal form you don't need a guarantor..

but if for whatever reason you can't use that form you will still need a guarantor

Ant thats a great question. I'm also dealing with a third country and after watching what my mom went though trying to get a new passport to get an updated PR card for Canada, I think I've given up on keeping my German citizenship (Can't become an American and keep it as well). Because of that though and my non-Canadian birth cert, really old (laminated cardbord) citizenship card with a picture of me at like 8 months, I think I'm going to try to keep my passport up to date just incase. Especially if Kathryn is right and they are going to 10 year passports, which is really overdue.
