I wanted to open an account in Insight Credit Union. Me and my fiance arent married yet. Im a K1 visa holder, i have a SSN. But I was told I need a State ID because they need to see a document that states my adress in USA. We're gonna go apply for my state ID tomorrow, do u think I can go open an account just with a receipt?

As far as I know Bob is once again correct. You neither need to live in the US nor have a US id to open a bank account. What you will need is some form of photo identification. My hubby opened his account prior to receiving his green card and them just took a copy of it to them when he received it.

Opened a bank account at Bank of America with no problems. I went with my husband (who's a client of theirs for years-so maybe that helped). All I needed was my passport, and showed them my visa which of course states my fiancée status and husband's name. we didn't even have our marriage licence at the time.

so shouldn't be an issue. Just depends on the bank's regulations I guess.
