I went over for the interview and we flew back together 10 days later.

I was glad we did it that way. I got to see (for better or worse) how it was for him making final decisions. And I was there to see him say good bye to his brother.

When they come here for good on that particular trip - it's different. There is so much finality. I'm glad I was there to see what he was experiencing. It made me appreciate what he was doing for me even more.

My husband did the same for me and I appreciated it so much.

He didn't even consider not coming along with me for the interview and be there with me for last days back in Germany. I had everything pretty much packed and ready but saying goodbye to everybody and getting the "official" part of moving to a different country done together was a nice way of starting our joint life.

It's not a matter of not being able to handle the flight by oneself or such thing, it's a matter of being there for each other!

I didn't really have a choice. She had to fly from Shenyang to Guangzhou for her interview (about 3 hours by plane). She had never flown by herself anywhere, and my presence with her in Guangzhou gave her more evidence that our relationship was bona fide (China being a high fraud country).

If you marry a Chinese, you MUST have a wedding in China. So after she got her visa, we returned to Shenyang, and had a non-legal wedding ceremony there for her family. We then flew home to the US together, and had our legal wedding here.

Well, POE was not Nik's first time in the US. I had been to the UK more than once, seen his family (who were coming for two weeks shortly), seen his home, his favorite sights, etc. I did not have any vacation to spare (was using the last 5 days to be able to take off the week after the wedding) and, as he was coming so close to the wedding, he was traveling with his best man, so he wasn't alone for the big trip.

I DID meet him/them half way, flying from PHX to JFK and we spent the weekend there - I was waiting outside of customs for him after taking a redeye the night before.

I was a little miffed because I had taken some effort to mail him a SIM card for the family plan I got set up so that he could call me as soon as they let you turn cell phones on - he didn't take it out of his pocket until we were waiting for a cab. *sigh* So the wait was extra long with no news - except a lone message from the BM!!

If I had the money and vacation time to spare I probably would have gone to spend time with him before, but the reality is that I didn't have the time, and no one ever has enough money. ;)

Hubby came alone - just picked him up here in Nashville. He'd been over several times before on his own and was fine with it. It would have just cost us more $$ for me to go meet him and come back - $ we decided to save for AOS. But it would have been nice to travel with him.

Wife-to-be came alone, with me waiting hyperly in the closest possible "visitor" area outside Customs, si man. She was sick as a dog, chiefly from having attended nonstop "despedidas" (going-away parties) in three different cities during the week before her arrival, sneeze man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

After the interview, I wonder how many of you went back to see your loved one and come home together versus waiting for them at the POE?

i would never think about letting my love fly to new country alone and entering first time alone.. as long and hard you worked to get her here. bring her home properly and bring her back with you. less stress and worry for both of you

congrats on passing all and getting her here!!!

My fiancee flew alone. She's a big girl and had flown internationally before, but I tried to make it as easy for her as possible. I made sure she flew Northwest Airlines from Guangzhou to Tokyo and from Tokyo to Minneapolis/Saint Paul so her POE was her final destination. I knew the Northwest attendants on the Guangzhou/Tokyo flight would speak Chinese and help her with her connection if she needed it. Also, Northwest had a special "Welcome to America" one way price that was about one half the cost of a round trip ticket. All she had to do was show them her K1 visa in order to get the discount. Price was definitely a factor as the cost would have been 3 times the amount if I had gone to pick her up.

I want to fly with my husband, I always cry when i have to go through those black doors and leave him behind. I would love for once to pass those frigging doors with my husband by my side!!

I know he will be ok if he had to travel by himself but I would love to see his long legs cramped in coach (he is very tall :jest: ) and just being there sharing on this experience with him.

He may have to travel alone since I don't think I can get away with it with work and all .

I went to bring her back. She had never flown and was unfamiliar with airports, boarding passes etc. POE was easy (LAX).

I went over and helped her pack her things. Shirr had never traveled in an airplane before and was a bit nervous about it. Plus she had no luggage and would need to buy some had I not packed 3 bags inside my bag for the trip back.

I also wanted to assure her mother that I would be a good man for her daughter.

And they wanted to go to Manila to see her off and I would have been paying for the van trip either way so I took the time to visit the area again.

I always enjoyed my time in the Philippines and jump at the chance to go there when I can.
