Police in Peru have broken up a gang that allegedly killed dozens of people in order to extract and sell their fat for use in cosmetics, according to media report

A police officer displays two bottles containing human fat and sticks of dynamite at a press conference in Lima Thursday. Police say a gang of assassins killed people to extract and sell their body fat for cosmetics.

The Associated Press quotes Col. Jorge Mejia, chief of Peru's anti-kidnapping police, as saying three gang members have confessed to killing five people for their fat.

Two were arrested at a bus station while carrying bottles of liquid fat, he says. The suspects told police it was worth about $60,000 a gallon.

The three have been charged with homicide, criminal conspiracy, illegal firearms possession and drug trafficking, the AP reports.

Several medical experts acknowledged that fat had cosmetic uses, but they also said they doubted that there was an international black market for human fat, the AP says.

While police officials suspect that the fat was sold to cosmetic companies in Europe, Mejia said he could not confirm any sales, the AP says.

Police showed reporters two bottles of fat recovered from the suspects and a photo of the remains of a dismembered 27-year-old man recovered in a coca-growing valley.

Mejía said on of the suspects, Elmer Segundo Castillejos, told officers that the gang would cut off a victim's head, arms and legs, remove the organs, and then drain the fat into tubs.

Reuters reports that police are investigating the disappearance of at least 60 people in the area linked to the gang.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I heard this on NPR yesterday... seriously... WTH!!!

The suspects told police it was worth about $60,000 a gallon.

The fat was being sold to Italian buyers in the cosmetics market.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Did they have to kill for it? I think a lot of people would pay you to take it. The same people might then buy the cosmetics made out of it. It's a win-win situation.

Dude I don't care what you say. I have spoken to my liberal comrades here and if they say these sort of things happen every, surely they happen everywhere.

We just happened to call them Nazis and sent many of the perpetrators to their death for doing so. Plus it was a good 60 years ago.

It could become a cash crop, specially in places where obesity rates are near epidemic levels. Tough to have a human tragedy such as this, and all the humorous trash that comes from it, to realize where the demand for these kinds of 'products' lie.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
