Filipina wedding dress tradition

Anyone have their filipina bride have any unusual wedding traditions ?

Mine doesn't want to try on the wedding dress before the wedding day because of traditional customs.

It's perfectly fine with me. But I'm wondering when I take her to the bridal place how the lady will help her pick a dress without her trying it on.

Has anyone else done that before ?

Thankfully she doesn't know about or believe in the other customs mentioned above.. just this one thing is always done in her family.

Yep my wife was the same way. She just had someone make her dress so they just measured for it. She had the underpart (dont know what to call it)for the dress that she tried on. Other than that, she just wore the dress for the first time on the wedding day. I didnt see the dress until she was walking down the isle to me.

It's part of the Filipino culture and beliefs (superstitious) that it is not good to fit/wear the wedding dress before the wedding day because something wrong will happen like the wedding will not be push thru. This is a belief that has been passed from generation to generation. However, that depends on the filipina women if they still stick on that belief. There are so many beliefs when it comes to wedding traditions in the Philippines, some are even funny to think about. These beliefs may have some variations in different parts/regions of the country.

In my case, I tried my wedding dress before our wedding day just to check if its measurements really fit on me...our wedding was still successfully done.

thanks for your comments, well in the US we have the tradition that it's bad luck to see the bride in the dress before the wedding for the groom but that's not taken seriously. She doesn't really believe this stuff but it's the way her family always does it, so I do want to respect her wishes and it's fine with me.

Just curious what others did if their wife to be asked the same thing.. hehe.. everything along the journey is an experience

I fitted mine before paying and I am still happily married....2 years last Tuesday

I had mine made in the Philippines so I wanted to make sure everything was good to go...

Yes there are a lot of superstitions that come with your filipina bride. Lets see..we didnt go out or travel for the whole week before the wedding...only to the market and back. On our wedding day we were getting ready at the venue and they had rooms there. We were doing filming and I found out my belt was too small (they boxed the wrong belt). Well, me and my best man were going to go to the mall to get it exchanged (only about a mile away) and my wife would not let me go. Her cousin and brother went to get it exchanged. Of course we were apart for most of the day before the wedding. We were txting back and forth for everything.

Some things that she has told me for superstitions has made me scratch my head and I have to hold back and just let her be. There is no changing the thinking or beliefs...i found that out.
