Meh, thought I'd post an update.

I have contacted two "port" officials, one I got through Logan website (followed prompts through to POE all the way down to vehicle importation) and also contacted the MA Autoport (through Massport), which is a major hub for the importation of cars (like if, I duno, Volvo ships their cars from Estonia they'll arrive by boat at Autoport).

I haven't got a response from either. I figure on being somewhat patient, I don't have to import it *tomorrow*. I am considering, though, that trying to import goods like a vehicle at the airport might be unusual, and Autoport is a commercial venue and might not have the time of day for a single immigrant importing a personal car.

However, I will persist. I am going to try local options first, and investigate customs brokers but I REALLY don't want to pay a broker to import my car for me when really it is NOT difficult. Or shouldn't be...

Another option is to drive to a smaller airport POE (like Salem, MA), they absolutely should be able to process this.

Only concern is that if they've never imported a Canadian car they might force me to pay duty or something, I'll have to go in prepared.

My other option is to drive 4 hours to Derby Line (the closest land border). I don't want to do this, obviously.

I'm more concerned with getting a marriage license and JP and booking my honeymoon :P

Question: I have a 1996 Mercury Villager that I got from my Dad. We plan to drive that down to POE.

I have the title but would they still expect to see a bill of sale?? Also, I assume I would still need to get a compliance letter from Ford? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, and I just called the CBP at Port Huron and asked them what I need to import to the US. It turns out I just need the compliance letter and they fill out the paper work. Sounds simple enough

Hi

I wanted to move my car but it looks so complicated...I have a Mazda...

I expect to cross the border in March with a small truck to move my stuff and we were supposed to towe my car...

What I would have liked to do it`s moving first with a truck in March and come back to get my car next summer (probably in September) when I will have my AP...because I expect to come back for 1 or 2 months next summer to help my parents...

Do you think it`s possible to import my car 4 or 5 months after my entry with my K 1 Visa?

Thanks for your help

Jo

My compliance letter was free too.

Jo I think it's possible to import the car up to 10 years after POE, as we have 10 years for all other items. I'm only making this assumption, it's probably worth calling customs and asking them that.

The getting the compliance letter is really an easy proposition. And as noted by Peachey, Mazda letter will be free. That's the first step. Then, with Tina&Roland saying that they really will just fill out all the paperwork for you, it shouldn't be too big a deal.

It would've been SO much easier for me to import at POE, I think. I'm on hold with RMV right now just to get some more info about all of it, and yet..

I also wanted to move ASAP and wasn't willing to wait the week for the stupid compliance letter, it seemed like a dumb reason to delay moving. I'm glad I made the choice I did, given the fact that I didn't have to declare/import car at POE.

Well. Ask me in a week if I still feel this way :P

I argued with J when he told me to call the RMV about importing my car because I knew that it has to be Customs I need to go to.

I relented and called, and actually, this helped a great deal because they were able to give me the local Boston number for customs and that officer was able to tell me exactly where to go, he gave me a phone number and said to call first and make sure they're there because they sometimes step out.

And that's that -- we'll see how easy it will be to import the car down here as a K-1 but I think it will likely be just as simple as if I did it at POE.

So calling the "wrong" people helped me backtrace the process and find the right people.

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus, did it cost money to get the Emissions Approval from Ford Manufacturer? I just go to the dealership for it yes?

Oh yes and I am talking my personal car from Vancouver BC to Everett WA

Yeah, just go to any Ford dealer and ask for the letter. It'll be $90 including tax.
