Hello,

I am not sure I am on the right forum but maybe somebody will be able to help me. I am a permananet resident and I am going to have a baby at the beggining of January. I am planning to have my parents come for 6 months to visit and also to help us with the baby. They already visited USA for two months last year and they do have a valid tourist visa. I know that the maximum period they can stay is 6 months but..... my question is: Am I allowed to purchase a ticket for a 6 months period?

Please helppppp!

Thank you!

If they have valid visas, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, you can purchase a ticket with a return flight 6 months later. It's generally better booking the return for a few days before 6 months, just in case there is an ilness, or flight delays.

Thanks to everyone. I will purchase the tickets for a round trip a little less than 6 months. I was first thinking of buying a ticket for 3 months and change the date later but considering that at the border they can put the stamp with only 3 months and of course the fee for changing the date is so high it didn't seem like a good idea. I just didn't want them to feel forced to put 6 months stamp but..... i guess I worry to much and my parents have the rights to stay till up to 6 months.

Thank you again!

Your parents have the opportunity to stay for up to 6 months, they do not have the right to do so. And rarely do the CBP feel forced to do anything.

I suggest you book a ticket for a few days less than 6 months but purchse travel insurance incase the trip needs to be shortened.

Good luck
