Hi All, I am just starting this process. My boyfriend, Sherif, is in Egypt and I am in Hawaii. I am going to Egypt in Jan, and we will be getting engaged!!! What do I need to set in place before I go there? Has anyone here started this with a lawyer or on your own? If with a lawyer any recomendations? When I hear people talk about' We got OUR interview" does this mean I have to go back to Egypt for this? I feel so overwhelmed by all the stories and papers!!!! The police certificate? Not sure what this means..and someone posted it is not available in Egypt..LOL, all the abreveations are like a code I dont know yet!!! Where do I start?? I welcome any advice and especially American- Egypt...I am so glad I have found this site. I really need all of your support!!

Aloha 4 now~

The guides for K1 is your best friend right now. I wouldn't use an attorney unless you had extraordinary circumstances. VJ guides will tell you step by step what you need for the petition. Your fiance will have to interview in Egypt. Be sure to read the guides and save every ounce of documentation from your trip, pics, receipts, boarding passes, etc. It is overwhelming at first, but take it step by step. After reading the guides all the stories you read will start making sense, and other things will only make sense after you experience them first hand.

You can do a forum search for Egypt and you will be able to find info specific to your country. Good luck in your journey.

First thing to do is go see the Pyramids in Giza, while you're there, take a few pictures of the two of you together.... secondly, keep your boarding passes, hotel receipts and evidence that proves you indeed went to Egypt to be with your fiance'. As just mentioned, readup on the guides and file away. You don't likely have to be present at the interview, you may not be allowed other then being in the waiting room so going back is optional though some say it's a great idea.

{sorry for the off-topic comment}

Do you fly east or west to get to Egypt from Hawaii?

I've gone either way from NYC to Thailand.
