This forum has been a life saver for me" thank you all" but I still am not certain on some I-864 questions,

1) As the petitioning sponsor I fill out a seperate I-864 for my wife and step daughter because they have seperate petitions.

2) I am led to believe our joint sponsor also needs to fill out 2 seperate I-864's one my wife and one for my step daughter?

3) My step daughter's father lives in France and has no contact or custody what so ever, we did manage to get a letter from him years ago stating we could travel outside the country with her.

Do we even bother to bring that document, or does that open a can of worms? any other documents required?

4) Part 3 in the I-864 in items 8 and 9, everytime I read this explanation below I come up with a different answer..help!

seeing that we are filing 2 seperate petitions I should check the box in line 8, disregard the "yes and no"question with 2 joint sponsors, and leave line 9 open?

8. Indicate whether you are sponsoring the principal immigrant listed in item 2 in this Form I-864. This only applies to cases with two joint sponsors. Check "No" only if you are sponsoring only intended immigrants listed in 9 (athrough e) and not the principal immigrant listed in item 2.

1.

Often a spouse or minor children obtain visas or adjust statusas dependents of a relative, based on the same visa petition. If you are sponsoring such dependents, you only need to provide a photocopy of the original Form I-864, as long as these dependents are immigrating at the same time as the principal immigrant or within six months of the time he or she immigrates to the United States. You do not need to provide copies of the supporting documents for each of the photocopied Forms I-864.
(I-864 Instructions)

2. See 1.

3. Bring everything in this regard. However, since you state it's only for "travel" and not immigration, you may want to speak with a French lawyer on the laws governing this. Avoid now any issues that may arise.

4. You would Check 8 and 8 "Yes" - For 9 - depends - if they are on seperate petitions, you would not check 9 and would write "none" in 9A, if they are on the same petition, you would check 9 and fill out 9A as applicable.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

In reference to items 1 and 2 my wife and step daughter have already filed and had approved seperate I-130 forms for each of them, we were also sent 2 I-864 forms one for each petitioned immigrant. So the question is still there whether the joint sponsor needs 2 seperate I-864 forms one for Mom and one for daughter?

I'm a bit concerned on my step daughter's documents, the father in France basically abandoned his daughter at birth, but years later he did go through the process for her to obtain a French passport,

(which we have used for her to travel back and forth to the U.S.) and about 3 years ago he produced a letter to allow her to travel abroad, but that's it. I agree if we avoid this it will come back on us, hence the use of the French passport to enter/ exit the U.S.

I think I finally get item 8 and 9..thanks
