Yes its true, your supposed to take your green card and go to SSN office to get the new card without that writen on it. When you get yours go get thos removed from your SSN card, you dont need DHS auth to work anymore as you will have your green card

Could you do the same thing using your EAD card? Actually we did that last week (mainly to get the name changed to her married name) - I assume her new card will not say DHS authorization needed.

Sadly you will be disapointed... EAD is NOT a status change, but merely an interim benefit. Your new card will come with the "language" attached.

YMMV

I see, so she would have to show any potential employer her SS card and her EAD. Thanks.

yes, true. But it is not necessary. You will never use the card as work validation anyway. Even citizens have to show a passport or birth certificate. So, really, no one can work without other documents anyway. When you get your green card you will only have to show that and give the SSN. The number is important, the card is not.

well, no. The SS card is not even on the I-9. Employers do not have to see the SS card. I lost my card years ago. Alla has had a couple of jobs and was never asked for her SS card, only her green card.

Can I change my last name with EAD on my SS card?

Not sure what you are asking. If you have an EAD in your married name and an SS card in your maiden name, YES, you can go to SS and change your name on your SS card.
