no.,.it is totally wrong in any religion..as i stated earlier...it is a backward ideology grasped and change to fit the need for control of the patriarchs in the system....

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Layla, I'm really curious to know what leads you to believe that this is cultural? By the way, people that are religious fanatics obviously don't follow what the quran says.

I'm sorry but that makes no sense to me whatsoever. How can you call anyone who doesn't follow their faith a "religious fanatic"? If it was a christian doing the same thing I would not label him as a religious fanatic either.

How so? What does the quran say about religious fanaticism?

This goes for any religion. Do you see anywhere in the bible where is says to blow up abortion clinics? I am not muslim but I am arabic. Islam is a religion about peace just as any other religion is, there are fanatics that interpret the religion differently. Honor Killings exist in my country (Jordan) but are rare. I can't tell you that in Jordan all the honor killings are done by Muslims, because I'm sure there are Christians that have so in the past as well. However its not culturally accepted there and very rare.

If you look in my other quote you will see I elaborated more on this statement.

Islam is a religion about peace

I'm sick of hearing this!!

"Muslims Have Said Islam is a Religion of Peace - But Where?

In Nigeria? In 1987 churches were set on fire in Kaduna and Kafanchan and Muslims killed hundreds of Christians.

In Algeria? Algerian Muslim students in the Houston admit that those who convert from Islam are killed in their country.

In the Sudan? Muslim are enslaving and selling women and children of the Dinka tribe according to the London Economist. The May 4, 1992 special ed. of Newsweek on slavery also reported that Muslims are still enslaving blacks as did the Austin American Statesman on 2/2/1996. Reader’s Digest 3/1996 p.77-81 "Slavery’s Shameful Return to Africa" is a heart-wrenching account of oppression today. Also, mosques are being bombed by Muslims of different groups.

In Egypt? A Muslim doctor was stabbed by a Muslim extremist. His crime? - treating a Christian stabbed by a Muslim extremist.

In Iran? On 13/3/1990 Iranian Christian pastor Rev. Hussein Soodmand was taken from his prison cell and executed because 21 years earlier he had converted from Islam to Christianity. Besides Christians, Baha’is, Sufis, and Zoroastrians have also been killed by government authorities.

In Afghanistan, the Sunni Taliban massacred about 3,000 Shi’ite Hazaris. This was probably in revenge for Hazaris massacring about 2,000 Taliban fighters earlier in the war.

In Tajikistan, there has been a brutal civil war that pitted Muslims against Muslims.

In Pakistan, a teenage girl was executed for converting from Islam to Christianity. Small Muslim sects, such as the Ahmaddiya, are by law persecuted by the authorities in Pakistan.

In the Qur’an? "Kill them, and Allah will torment them by your hands. He will humiliate them and give you victory over them…" (Sura 9:14) "Fight those who believe not… even if they be People of the book [Christians and Jews] until they have willingly agreed to pay the Jizya tribute in recognition of their submissive state." (Sura 9:29)

In Iraq, so far I have not heard of any persecution of Christians more than any other groups. Perhaps Iraq today, that pristine paragon of peace, is where Islam is most like a religion of peace.

Conclusion: Islam is the most warlike and violent major world religion today."

Well it is, and its unfortunatly not portrayed that way by fanatics. However those fanatics don't represent the entire population of muslims in the world.

Here are some verses from the Quran:

[4:15] And as for those who are guilty of an indecency from among your women, call to witnesses against them four (witnesses) from among you; then if they bear witness confine them to the houses until death takes them away or Allah opens some way for them.

[4:34] Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.

[24:2] The adulteress and the adulterer you shall whip each of them a hundred lashes. Do not be swayed by pity from carrying out GOD's law, if you truly believe in GOD and the Last Day. And let a group of believers witness their penalty.

Layla,

Just fyi I had read this before making my post....

Noun

* S: (n) honor killing (an ancient Muslim tradition still sometimes observed; a male member of the family kills a female relative for tarnishing the family image)

Source

If that is indeed false then I retract my statement about the religious fanaticism

I have never read this in the Quran.

Furthermore, a girl wanting to marry a muslim man who just happens to be from a different country/tribe/race/(insert whatever here) does not constitute tarnishing the family name.... her sleeping with half the nation would be more of what that deffinition is talking about.

Would you find this act of murder to be more palatable if the victim was a #######?

Me and Yacine's family sure as hell wouldn't. Ultimiately, it is Allah (swt) who will punish the wrongdoers... People should not take God's work into their own hands... And the man who fornicates with this s..t as well will be punished just as harshly..

I agree with you- in any religion there are those "bad seeds" who interpret things differently and who condone violence and give a bad name to that religion. It happens in everything there will always be those who see things way differently and who unfortunately allow us to generalize a whole religion as it's most violent and not so peaceful "sect".
