Let's keep any negative - and especially derogatory - comments out of here. I am sure many Mexican's 'have a clue' - just not always the same opportunities Aussies and Canadians have to travel.

hmm - won't let me make these into two separate posts so consider this a separation here:

It wasn't worded correctly. I meant it in the context of if they knew about the working conditions of Aus or Canada. I did not mean it in a ha ha they are dumb way. Just saying..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Are they sold anywhere here in the States?

At Tim Horton's Coffee and Donut stores where you can find them. They are mainly in the Canadian/US border states although they are making some headway south and I believe that there is even a Tim Horton's in Kentucky now. Their coffee is wonderful - many Canadians get 'care packages' of Tim Horton's coffee sent to them by friends and family back in Canada  .

My favorite thing about Canada is my best friend. We even considered immigrating, but I couldn't handle the long winters. I love Canadians, but I did have some Canadian friends who had the stupidest, most ridiculous complaint I've ever heard about America in my life! They complained that we unfairly, arrogantly, and ignorantly usurped the label, "American." They were Americans, too, they insisted. Like the founding fathers said, "Let's shaft those Canadians and Mexicans and call ourselves the United States of America." It wasn't Americans who chose to call us Americans, anyway.

I love Australians, too, but my Australian friends were always pointing out that their cost of living was SOOOOOOOOOO much higher than the cost of living in the US. In fact, there was a list of the worlds most expensive cities, and Sydney was like number 2 or number 3. I don't remember exactly.

Australia and Canada needs to setup an open border treaty. Canadians would love spending summers in Aus and vice versa.

Hehehe I learned a number of years ago when Kingston was hosting the Olympic Sailing training Regattas (C.O.R.K.) that Aussies viewed Canadians as 'exotics'! Canadians tend to view Aussies in much the same way though, so that was cool.

I love a lot of things about Canada. I like that we like each other, mostly and we look out for each other. I like that as I sit here at my computer I can see the rocky mountains.

My Australian Husband is sitting next to me, I don't think of him as exotic

The countries share very similar values and attitudes. Aesthetically and nature wise, they both offer poplar opposite extreme environments, which is fascinating.

Plus we have the Southern Lights

Those are awesome. Even though I lived in Southern Ontario I still saw the Northern Lights every now and again - although my best view was when I was working in Saskatchewan. Yeah - Northern Lights - that is another wonderful thing that happens in Canada (and other countries as well - I'm not trying to hog them all :) ).

Montreal is our nearest city and we enjoy it very much. We shop there a lot and spend many days walking downtown, going to museums, etc. It is really a nice, clean and quite friendly city in my experience (I also lived there for a year) Also I very much appreciate having Canada as a near neighbor as opposed to, say, Belarus or some other less friendly country with 5000 miles of un-protected border. And despite our good natured ribbing, we all know that if one needed the other they would be there.

Some sights that leave me nostalgic for home ...

Honest Ed's -- downtown Toronto (Bathurst/Bloor)

Rideau Canal, Parliament and the Chateau Laurier in downtown Ottawa

St. Joseph's Cathedral on Mount Royal, Montreal

We love to ice skate there! I was going to mention that. Also at Park LaFountaine and in the basin at Vieux Montreal, Alla loves ice skating and even though we live on lake Champlain and can skate right in fornt of the house she enjoys going to Montreal for skating and then out for dinner or to IKEA!

I live about 30-40 minutes from the Windsor-Detroit border.

It's a decent city but definitely not the best Canada has to offer!

They have this one street (Ouellette) full of clubs and such where all the 19 and 20 year old Americans flock to so they can drink legally. I went many times and had some great experiences. Also went to the Windsor casino many many times.

I haven't been back in a good 5 years but would like to return one of these days.
