Has the 'make it a legal, tax-generating, hopefully safer profession' angle been discussed yet?

That's where I'd be OK with it being legal, with not benefit to us married guys right dudes? :innocent:

Yes, it has.

And this thread hasn't grown so long that you're exempt from reading back to the beginning :bonk:

Shhhhhhhhhhh I'm not to be told to do my homework you hear!!!

If prostitution was legal, would unplanned pregnancies be affected?

I'd be more concerned with the planned ones tbh.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Things are supposed to get cheaper when they move off the black market, but would that be true with prostitution?

Oh really? Then why are black market ciggies & liquor priced far BELOW legal (taxed) smokes/booze?

Hint: Coz they're evading the taxes.

That would likely remain the outcome with hookers. So long as it's profitable to offer it on the street on a cash basis, that sector of the business will continue unchanged.

The part of the business run out of massage joints etc. where they take credit cards for payment, abide by zoning restrictions on signage etc. - that part of the business is already effectively licensed and taxed.

How much tax is one willing to pay for a #######?

11 to 21 perecent???

Well, it really depends on what the going rate would be. I'm not well-informed as to how much a prostitute costs in the US. The more interesting question would be what would the price do if it became legal? Things are supposed to get cheaper when they move off the black market, but would that be true with prostitution?

I view it as a Value Added Tax - the prostitute would collect it, report it, and then pay it to the feds. That extra tax is NOT part of her reportable income - she would report the regular earnings, with regular tax stuff, as well.

IMO, doesn't matter the going rate.

You pay a higher hotel room tax in the usa, right? So yer used to paying something higher than 'sales tax'.

I definitely know which of the guys here would use them.

One of my good female friends worked at a strip joint in Melbourne. You guys would have creamed your undies over her.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
