Well, I disagree but that's not a huge surprise I know. I've known people in both situations--sleeping around with whoever and others like me who didn't do that. I don't know, seems the sleeping around crowd had a lot more drama and heartbreak than I ever did. I have a nice life, and I am happy with the decisions I made or didn't make.

So basically your life is boring.

I don't anyone here who posts on VJ can take the high road on boredom.

How does that "your life is boring' answer even apply to these days? Do you mean WAS boring? I've been married over 5 years now. I have a child. And actually my teenage years were very fun if you meant to refer to the "old days" of mine.

I think it depends if the person can have sex without involving emotion. To me, sex is just sex. I think you have to have a "contract" of sorts with the other person though. You have to agree up front that it's just sex. If it starts to become more you just stop.

When I lived in California I slept with all sorts of men for various reasons, and without any emotional attachment at all. It was fun. Sex is fun. It feels nice. I will say that I just wrote a paper about how my sexuality has evolved since I lost my virginity. I have no clue how I had the energy to do half the stuff I did when I was younger.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

I know a girl who is 19 and waiting to have sex. She seems to be very happy and having lots of fun.

Well that is good. As for the no emotional attachment thing, I obviously disagree and don't think it should come to that in life. I know I'm coming from a very different side of the issue and I feel it has many more emotional and spiritual benefits than the other side of the issue. We will just never agree on this issue. lol.

The biggest problem I have with it is from the perspective of the perveyor of sex in terms of what sort of person considers prostitution a career opportunity. That's hard to reconcile for me as I really can't see how that fits very well with having a high self esteem and self worth.

The kind of person who likes sex. A lot.

Likes sex a lot? I don't think many prostitutes 'like' sex with their clients. However, I am not one of those people who can separate the sexual act from an emotional involvement with the person I have sex with, so I don't think I have the perfect perspective.

I actually view people who have sex outside of an emotional context as emotionally retarded which I think is probably a negative bias ;)

I think this post is spot on. A guy who has no other options besides paying for sex is probably not a top performer. It's basic economics. If it's good, you pay for it. If it's neutral, it's free. If someone pays you to take it, it probably isn't much good.

And yes, I would agree with emotionally retarded in the very scientific sense of the word retarded.

I meant the whole "emotionally detached" aspect. I know you think I'm a dork. I don't care.

Has the 'make it a legal, tax-generating, hopefully safer profession' angle been discussed yet?

That's where I'd be OK with it being legal, with not benefit to us married guys right dudes? :innocent:

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Well, it really depends on what the going rate would be. I'm not well-informed as to how much a prostitute costs in the US. The more interesting question would be what would the price do if it became legal? Things are supposed to get cheaper when they move off the black market, but would that be true with prostitution?

Yes, it has.

And this thread hasn't grown so long that you're exempt from reading back to the beginning :bonk:

Brothels are legal in Aus. Just saying.

Not that I ever used one or needed to but the guys from high school used to go.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
