should we legalize prostitution?

The biggest problem I have with it is from the perspective of the perveyor of sex in terms of what sort of person considers prostitution a career opportunity. That's hard to reconcile for me as I really can't see how that fits very well with having a high self esteem and self worth.

The kind of person who likes sex. A lot.

and/or cannot get a job or doesn't want jobs they can get. situation: the person loves sex, cannot get a decent job because it's uneducated, lazy, or the economy is just not helping, or when she can get a job it's somehwere like mcdonalds, work late, weekends, etc making $8/hour. Why not just make $300 in a couple hours in 1 night?

Geez, I'm no expert but I doubt loving sex is the main reason people go into prostitution. That sounds dumb. It sometimes involves some story of really needing money for various reasons and they are desperate, bad reasons or good reasons, or being pushed into it by family(like in other countries too, it's just horrible), then I guess you can have the case of someone in it for the stated reason. I of course don't support one night stands, sleeping around, or prostitution...as I would hope most VJers wouldn't either since they are married(or getting married) and all. (notice I said most, you can never say "all" around here).

It's commerce and therefore under the government's jurisdiction as with any other legal business. Allowing them to conduct business free of taxes would cause an uproar among small business owners across this great country of ours.

They're liable for income tax right now, even when the product/service they are selling is illegal.

Drug proceeds, organized crime proceeds, prostitution proceeds, etc.etc. ---- the IRS has no problem with any of that. They want their cut of all your worldly income, legal and otherwise.

So no one can escape the clutches of the evil federal government. Not even the John Galt's.

Well, I disagree but that's not a huge surprise I know. I've known people in both situations--sleeping around with whoever and others like me who didn't do that. I don't know, seems the sleeping around crowd had a lot more drama and heartbreak than I ever did. I have a nice life, and I am happy with the decisions I made or didn't make.
