My fiance also asked me about the rice 'coz he is eating brown rice and he is concerned that I may not like it..We will also get Jasmine and then probably, gradually switch to brown rice since it's a lot healthier... ;)

After 4 years my wife finally changed to a more healthy brown rice. Just has to soak it longer.

Comes in 25lb bags naman.

We buy the 25 lbs Japanese brown rice at the Oriental store. It's good for your health.

Hokey Smoke!

Rocky: "Baby, are they still mad at us on VJ?"

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."

Please don't bring a 25 pd bag on the plane :D

But - I do suggest you bring 1/2 kilo of the type you like - the two of you can get a knowledgeable store clerk at an asian market to tell you what type it is , and point you in the right direction at the store.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Claudeth loves Jasmine rice but not the Japanese rice. I was buying it in Vons but the one pound bags were like five bucks or something. We found a Filipino grocery store about 20 minutes away that has 50 pound bags of Jasmine rice for $26 so it certianly is worth the drive!

There are thousands of varieties of rice from around the world, from "wild" and heirloom types to high yield hybrids.

Anybody familiar with "7-Tonner" from Mindanao or know what variety it may be similar to? Its has great texture and flavor.

Hmmm...so far the one i'm having here taste similar with the banaybanay rice in the Phils. It's not really hard to find rice here in the states...what really bother me is i can't find fresh fish here in MO...it's all frozen! I miss paksiw & tenola. It's hard to find a typical filipino vegies here also especially the leafy one(malunggay, kangkong etc). (kakaloka na!) Good thing, during my flight I sneak in one pack of dried fish in my luggage and sinigang mix lol. -_-

Claudeth is from Cagayan and loves Jasmine so maybe they are similar. Whatever, I never seen anyone eat as much rice as she does. I have to buy it in 50 pound bags and would do hundreds if I could find em

Iris arrives next week! One of her father's first questions in my regards was, "does he eat rice?" "She told him, "Yes, each meal!" Of course, when presented without option I select rice every time!

It will be interesting, we talk about our living together and she has joked asking what kind of rice dispenser we will have? Thought it was very funny, a rice dispenser, ha ha ha.... But maybe I need to reconsider, maybe she wasn't joking!? 50 pound bags!

I have not found many details but 7-tonner may be a strain of banaybanay type, maybe that is a kind of jasmine rice?
