So, since both of my husbands I130 & I129f are both approved and are being sent to the NVC, my I129f will just pass there as a pit stop get an assigned number and will go straight to the consulate. However, if i go with the I130, I will still have to receive the first packet, turn things in, wait for response, get the second packet, turn things in, and wait for another response. You don't think that by the time that whole process of the I130 is complete that my I129f would have already been at the consulate and have been scheduled an appointment?

Once both petitions are approved, yes your I-129F will arrive a month or more sooner than the I-130 can. However, the comparison I'm making is to the overall timeline you could have had if you never filed the I-129F.

Everything you read about the K3 being a way to have your spouse join you in the USA sooner is years old news. It used to be that way but now the processing of I-130 petitions has sped up. Filing an I-129F gets your I-130 pulled out of line and has it wait until they are ready to process the I-129F. Then both petitions are approved the same day. This delays the I-130 by the diffrence in filing dates for the two petitions. With today's shortcuts through NVC, the timelines are virtually identical for K3 or stand alone CR1 cases for all but a few Consulates.

K3 doesn't save any substancial time anymore but it does cost a lot more.

They both have their pros and cons. It boils down to time. I rather be with my spouse now and wait over there for EAD rather spend another 3-4 apart.

I'm yet to get a response from anybody for instructions on what to do and what documents to start gathering now that my I-130 and I-129F are being processed to get myself ready for the interview at the embassy.

I am going for the K3 and no regret about it, i need to be with my wife and don't mind staying more 4yrs before getting the permanent residence. I am praying that the procession goes smoothly.

Pls mates, do advice me.

The advice to click on th word "Guides" at the top of any webpage on this site has already been given. Start by studying the K3 step-by-step guide. If you have remaining questions, we are here to help.

Have you contacted the Embassy? I'm in the same situation you are in. I emailed the Embassy. Very happy with what they told me about or journey.

Hello all, I'm Raphael and new on this but have seen how good and cooperating everybody here has been among themselves.

I'm recently received NOA for my I-130 and also NOA for my I-129F. I've been trying to find out what i need to start getting myself prepared for the embassy interview but have been having problems until i found this great site.

Anybody who has knowledge should pls advise me on it. I also heard somebody saying i can file for both CR-1 while the I-129F is been processed. Also anybody who has recently been approved of I-129F been processed in California? Need to have a clue on the timeline.

Thanks all and will be patiently waiting for your advice.

One Love.

I'll tell you one think CR-1 is good stuff if you want your spouse start to work or get SSN right after landing in USA but it willtake longer time for your spouse to get in USA then K-3 trust me i have same setuation. Also CR-1 will save you extra 1000$. It all depends on what you want. If you want to be with one you love ASAP then take K-3, if you want to save money take CR-1. It up to you. I choose K-3, money is not everything in life for me and my husband.

At this point, I really dont care which route i go. Im getting so impatient because i have two approved cases both I130 & I129f and they STILL haven't made to the NVC since October 27th!! What's going on NVC lately? I see cases being approved after me and made it to the NVC after me also.

There's no way to rush a case file to NVC. It will get there when it gets there but be advised you'll never know your I-129F has arrived unless you speak to a human. It will be important that you find enough "care" to make a decision on which path to pursue as there are fees to pay and work to do for the CR1, now and work to do and fees to pay for the K3 later. Pick your poison or have it picked for you by default.

Yea, I understand. Im just trying to say, Im ready for whatever is next with either of them. And your right, I speak to a human everyday at the NVC to see if my case has made it but nope, n o t h i n g. Does the DOS have the same info? Would it even matter if I call DOS to see where my case is at or is it the exact same thing as NVC?

They are not the same thing but DOS only knows about cases already in the system at NVC and to my knowledge, only after they've cleared NVC. In any event, NVC is who you call until the case leaves there.

Yes, NVC is part of DOS but the information avialable from NVC operators is not the same as information available from DOS visa information line operators. It is in that sense that, "They are not the same thing." By DOS, I meant their visa information line you reach calling a different number, group of operators with authorization to give different information during only the post NVC portion of the visa process.

I applied for the I130 and I129F. They were both approved by USCIS California in 3 weeks and sent to NVC. Currently the I130 is still at NVC (and has been for about 6 weeks) However the I129F is at the Embassy and we have a Dec. 11 interview. So I don't regret submitting both at this point. I haven't seen a down side to it as of yet. It will cost an extra $130, but to me it's worth that if my wife is with me a month or two sooner.

It's going to cost you an extra $650 by the time the green card comes and several months of potential earnings from the foreign spouse. However, be advised I-130 cases do just sit at NVC for quite a while if you don't proactively use the shortcuts to push them through. For people who won't learn the process and use the shortcuts, K3 is probably a good "lazy man's option" particularly if their spouse doesn't mind a few months of thumb twiddling after US arrival.
