N-400: Past I-485/2yr green card case touched....

Hi Everyone,

Just to let you all know that I have my N-400 citizenship interview in 2 days...on Wednesday November 18...

And after I had finished studying for the civics/history test today with my husband, he then said to me:

"Why don't you check your online status on CRIS to see if they have any updates?"

So I checked online...Only to discover a new update....

Last Updated: 11/08/2009 (and on a Sunday too, lol...)

Form Number: I-485

Form Title: APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Huh????

"Why are they touching my 2yr green card case now?," I thought. After all, that case was approved 3 years ago....It doesn't make sense....

Are they checking up on my file in preparation for the interview, and seeing if I qualify for citizenship?

What's odd too, is that it said on the online system it says that my case was approved on November 21, according to CRIS...

(which was the same message it was about three years ago, right after I got my green card)

But the "RESIDENCE SINCE" date on my green card says...November 14....(approved at green card interview)

And my citizenship interview is on November 18....

So will they go by the residence since date or the online date, and will it make a difference?

Did this happen to anyone else too?

What do you think? Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc. greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ant

My Green card was touched back in July of this year even before I sent in my N-400. I wasn't sure what was up with that. In a way it kind of freaked me out. Maybe they were looking at your file to make sure that you have been a resident for the past 3 years as you are coming up for your interview. Hopefully it is nothing to panic over. Good luck on your interview Wednesday.

Lissa04-Thanks for your reply and for saying that the same/similar thing happened to you too. I agree, they are probably looking over the past cases to see if one is eligible for citizenship and/or just doing routine maintenence cleaning up of old files (or it could be something else..lol...). Nah, I'm not totally panicking over that, especially more to that my interview is coming up (tomorrow..yikes!). On the bright side, at least they are looking at my case, so that's a good thing, right? What I find odd though, is that they would look at my old I-485 case on a Sunday (huh?). I was also wondering if the same thing happened to anyone else here on vj too, especially right before the interview...hmmm....

Now I wonder too..where exactly do they keep these old files? How do they have room to store them all?..lol...

Either way, I have a lot of stuff in my I-485 and I-751 and N-400 cases...should be very entertaining to them to read such beforehand...:pop:

Ant

P.S. Thanks for the good luck for my interview on Wednesday...Lol..I need all the luck I can get here on vj...And yes, I'll post about that experience too (lol..especially with about brining the baby along..should be interesting there...lol...).

Hey,

I always wondered what they did with those files. I probably bet they scan them and then throw them out. How in the world can they keep that many files? I am sure you will do fine for the interview. Does Buffalo office do same day oaths? I had to go to Charleston, West Virginia today for finger printing and the technician told me that they only do oaths at that office twice a year. I was like WOW only twice a year. If your oath is not the same day, hopefully you get it soon. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you.

Hello Ant + D,

I have no clue about your situation since I have not been there or you may say I have not reached there yet. Anyone who might have filled before you (preferrably in your jurisdiction could answer you well). Thats weird, too. I was also think about this issue but could not come up with a logical reasoning as to why the case is touched which already has been approved years back. I had done my biometrics for N-400 on October 18, exactly after one month of filing my N-400. After my biometrics on October 18, they kept touching both my I-485 and N-400 until October 25 with the same olf previous information on those portfolios. On November 11, I received an email from USCIS that my case has been transferred to the local office but my I-485 has not been touched since 11-05-09. Since November 11, my case N-400 only has been touched everyday until today. I really can't grasp how USCIS is working or how it is working. I really dont know what to expect from USCIS here onwards on my case.

But, anyways, we all are anxiously waiting on a long wonderful experience of yours tomorrow written here at VJ. Wish you a very pleasant journey and GOOD LUCK on your tomorrow's interview.
