We met through a mutual friend that he had come out to visit. He had a girlfriend @ the time & I had a boyfriend...I can honestly say that the idea of dating him never crossed my mind...

3 years later, our friend moved in with a girl who didn't want him staying with them for 3 months at a time, so I offered my couch...it gave us a lot of time to get to know each other much better - Needless to say, he didn't stay on the couch for 3 months...

2 years and a lot of 90 day visits later we got married - Our friends probably would have put our dating/getting married odds at 1,000 to 1 - he thought I was a loud American (which I am), and I thought he was an arrogant Brit (which he is), but somehow, it just makes things that much spicier.

We met on a mutual interest website/forum; 'knew' of each other for 2 years before we started to date; dated for 3 months before we became engaged; were engaged for 13 months before we were married (K-1 visa took 9 months)

(Your poll didn't have a third option for between 1 and 2 years :) )

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Met at a training class in Sweden, working for the same company. Became friends and he convinced me to come visiting, tempting me with a visit to Disney World. A couple of years later we started dating, I went back and forth every other 3 months on VWP. I almost got sent back to Sweden on my last visit after which we decided to get married. Now we are working on the "happily ever after" part.

Having just looked at another similar poll I realized it only focused on internet meetings so for all you who voted "other" in that one you've got your chance now.

but you didn't set the poll to allow only one answer.

We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel in 1988 when we were in our early 20s. We had a vacation romance until we had to go our separate ways. We kept in touch through "snail mail" letters (yes, all before emails!) and Xmas cards, but that dropped off in the 1990s. I googled him last year, visited him one month later (after last seeing each other almost 21 years prior), had visits back and forth. We got married in July 2009. 2nd chances do work!!!!!

(there definitely aren't any options for our story in your poll!)

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

We knew each other through a website about The Matrix, since about 2004-ish, but just casually to begin with. Then him, my friend Emma (who was in a LDR with a Canuck), and I struck up a friendship and he decided to come to Australia on holiday. We met June 3rd, 2005 in person, and he just knocked me out the moment I laid eyes on him. After he went back to the states, we knew there was something but we weren't sure what to do. So, we decided to try a long distance relationship July 2005. He came back to Australia Jan. 2006, I went over to the states on the VWP in April 2006, then I moved to the US on an F1 visa December of that year. We lived together until June this year until my visa was up and I came home. We got engaged Easter Sunday this year. So by the time the wedding comes around, it will have four and a half years together, engaged for nine months. Can't wait to be Mrs. Alex!
