Not sure, but from what I hear, the fiance(e) whoever is not getting interviewed usually has to stick out of the interview room.

Are fiancees allowed to be present during the K-1 interview in Ankara, Turkey?

The presence of the USC could prove the difference between approval and a 221(g) or outright refusal. Many (wherever in the world) have regretted not having been there. Read the fine print in my signature below to see what happened to us.

Even if you're outside the interview but on the consular premises, you can give your U.S. passport to the interviewee to show to the consul. That will score big points.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

I had mine there! I have heard of being refused at the gate, so I emailed Ankara first and got an ok and printed and took it with me should they deny me...but when I got there I had no problems...AND they ended up asking me a lot of questions after Hamit...so it is a good idea to go if you are able!

Very good idea, indeed. A thought just occurred to me: If you (the USC) encounter resistance, (1) tell the (foreign) personnel outside that the consulate is U.S. soil and that you as a U.S. citizen have every right to enter, and (2) tell the (foreign) personnel inside (who collect your evidence-of-relationship materials) that you are here in order to give the Consul every opportunity to make an informed decision about your relationship.

Very good idea, indeed. Consulates vary.

My friend TBoneTX has a tough room to play in Ecuador where presence of the USC I believe is mandatory,

because of the high fraud stats and also that the consular staff might benefit from some re-training :pop:

In Thailand the USC is not permitted except in extremely unique (if any) cases.

That's because I think there was an incident involving a USC and CO that got physical. :girlwerewolf2xn::protest::ranting:

I think in most cases consular policy lies between the two and even in Thailand it's a plus

to hand the USC's passport to the CO to prove that he (or she) is waiting outside. :idea:

I won't be there for her interview, but I was sure to be there the month before to help with the

interview documents. She felt that was more important than me being at the interview, as I

wasn't permitted to be present. :whistle:

Whether or not the US Citizen Fiance (or Spouse) can attend the interview is Embassy/Consulate specific - I don't believe a US Citizen can or will be refused entry to the facility though but being side-by-side with their partner may not always be allowed or practical. It just depends on the Embassy/Consulate's specific procedures.

To be successful in some countries, it is advisable to attend the interview.
