When we asked for him to delay issuing the Visa for Sean- he said that was not a good idea because it could get caught up in the 100s of applications they have coming through. He said we are allowed to cross without activating the Visa, but to be on the safe side, he told us that he was going to make a note on the computer system that the border patrol uses to say that Sean can come for a visit before he activates his Visa. He literally said "I, as the Consular Deputy, will let them know this is ok." He told Sean to tell them to look at their "CCD" screen for the note.

He did tell us that we are allowed to cross back and forth without activating the Visa, and if we don`t bring our entire packet then we really can`t activate the Visa anyway.

I wish he would have confirmed this with me too as I'm not planning on moving until February. I regret not asking him about this directly. I was under a very different impression.

his name is Paul Mayer, Deputy Consul General.

http://www.rwallenberg-int.org/Events/Mayer.htm

i dunno what this article is but it has his picture.

he's the nicest guy ever. you're lucky if you have him as your CO and i'm not just saying that cause Dale and i got him and because he reads these posts but he really is THAT nice.

Here's an article he wrote recently: http://blogs.state.gov/index.php/entries/stories_fse/

The Wallenberg article also bears out my experience of him being concerned with the human beings before him, which is what made the interview such a positive experience. He looked deeper than the papers in front of him.

ETA and actually now he is Consular Section Chief (see state.gov blog description of him), the Wallenberg site is a bit older.

Congratulations everyone!!!

I'm very glad for you guys!

Hope everything will be as well for us next week on 25th...I'm pretty nervous!

Also it`s good news to know that we can cross the boarder without activating the visa because like I said in an other post my mom is sick and I'm not sure when I will move for good between now and April...Everything will depends on our approval and how long it takes to get the Advance of parole!

Thanks for your helpful reviews and Congrats again!

Agreed - it's too bad we don't have more of him in this world. Maybe we should clone him?

So I don't think I was interviewed by the Director because I just looked at the picture, and it wasn't him. KnJ, is that who you had?

I asked the woman in room 7 if I could travel to the US & not activate the visa (I also mentioned I have a Nexus card & don't NEED my passport)....she frowned upon it & said I shouldn't do it. I don't know. I'm getting mixed answers on it.

I live 20 mins from the border, so if I decide to try to get in using Nexus & get turned down, it's not that inconvenient.

Congratulations everyone. I just love reading all these reviews! We're fortunate to have such a conscientious individual in a position of authority at the Consulate now as well. I think it is great that he is familiar with Visa Journey, too :) - and suspect it can only benefit any of our members who are interviewing at Montreal. People who are interested in committing fraud or trying to circumnavigate the immigration process are unlikely to become active members in a community such as this :) .

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

That's exactly why I think it can only be a good thing.

In a way, active participation here adds another layer of legitimacy to our immigration request. It humanizes us...puts our story on the page etc.

I think that was a really nice thought, Arabella, for you to buy a thank you card for the consulate. They probably don't get a lot of that.
