translation of the birth certificate?

Hi guys!

Two short questions:

Question 1:

I am from Germany and I wanted to know if I have to get my birth certificate translated into English? I think that I just have to get a notarized copy of it. Is that right?

Question 2:

On the Instruction for Fiance(e) visa applicants it says: "If any parent listed on a child's birth certificate is not immigrating with the child, then that parent must sign a document indicating that he or she consents to the child leaving Germany."

Is it just necessary for children under 21 or for all applicants? I am 26.

Is it enough when my parents sign the following document or what else should I write?:

"To whom it may concern,

I, (name of my dad/mum), consent that my son, (my name), is leaving Germany.

Sincerely,

XXX"

1. Yes, your German birth certificate must be translated. Read the Petition instructions again carefully.

2. You are not a child, so the instruction doesn't apply to you.

1. No. Documents submitted to the consulate may be in English or German. If they are in any other language, then they will need to be translated.

2. Those instructions are referring to children of the visa applicant; i.e., YOUR children, and ONLY IF those children are also immigrating with you. You don't need your parent's permission to immigrate. You are an adult.

For number 1, that may well be correct for Frankfurt. For many other Consulates it is not. For submission to USCIS, all such documents must be translated.

Yep, very true. The OP is going to need a copy of that birth certificate when he files for AOS, and USCIS is going to want it translated. For now, I think he was asking about the interview at the consulate, since he quoted from the consulate's K1 visa instructions.

The Consulate in Frankfurt mentions translations on their website page for general instructions for K and V visas, last paragraph:

They also mention it in the instruction packet for the K1 visa applicant, page 2, item 9 (which the OP quoted from):

The Consulate in HCM has a similar policy, which prompted me to check if Frankfurt did also. Even though the consulate doesn't need a translation, my fiancee got hers translated anyway, since she'll need the translation for AOS, and also because it costs less to get it translated in her country.
