I know you don't mind MC, that is one of your beautiful qualities. Also, this must explain why I and the scvk at math. I swear (not literally) that as soon as my 3rd grade teacher tried to explain the concept of <=>, I was lost...never recovered

BTW - to be on topic, I appreciate the fact that Obama bowed. It civility, cultural norm, and reflects positively on America as we come into the global economy. I did not see this a sign of weakness at all. In fact, I didn't give it a second of concern.

One of the saddest things is our inability to teach math in an exciting and friendly way. I was talking to my son (who incidentally is far better at understanding the concepts of math than I ever was) about how math related to the real world and why it was important to learn it. He had no clue. That his teachers haven't been able to give him, a kid who is good at it, the wonder and awe of the amazing and important role math plays in the world we humans have chosen to fashion for ourselves I find incredibly sad and worrying.

B) I've read a bit of Maxwell, but actually I certainly can't digest it properly because that is not my field and I am not to proud to admit that (where is the dunce hat emoticon...maybe this is the closest one <haha>). However...back to that <=>...isn't that really what we're discussing, both in terms of Obama's bow and then that ol' God thingy?

It's only my take on it, others look at it differently. I am not a math expert by any means, but I do find the concepts fascinating and most people can understand the concepts. I would imagine if you believe in god's omnipotence, nothing is going to take that away from you, not even the absence of the potential presence of god in predictable mathematical formula.

However, I have had mathematicians explain to God to me with numbers. I wish I had their talent. Quite frankly it is quite convincing, much more than anything I might ever 'say'....

Clearly I am biased against 'those' mathematicians I have never met one of those. My dad was a mechanical engineer and a believer, my brother a pure mathematician and is not. My dad never gave me a 'god' forumula though.
