Faith: not wanting to know what is true.~Nietzsche~

“The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.”

Hmmm 1. It was our prohpet's home (L) 2. I like that the society is not just left to corrupt itself 3. Access to the scholars and students of knowledge 4. To emerse myself in the language 5. Can make a decent living teaching English :P 6. Knowing my children are growing up in an Islamic environment and not constantly worrying about what they're being taught at school 7. I also believe that making hijrah to a muslim country is obligatory upon us and can't think of a better place to go

If only the Saudi's respected the Prophet's birthplace, instead they would prefer to destroy it, as they have down other historic sites, the most offensive perhaps being placing public toilets above the house of Sayyida Khadija. The more remote history of Wahhabism is filled with destruction of holy places too, the Baqi and Prophet's mosque to name a few, and for a time they even prevented non-Wahhabis from performing the hajj.

I think the society is horribly corrupted. Racism is rapant, migrant workers are treated like slaves, women are routinely denied healthcare and movement and are locked in their homes by their husbands as evidenced by the locks being on the outside of homes.

Anyway, my intent was not to create a new debate, I just found it curious that you would want to live there.

My husbands sister is in Saudi now with her husband who just started a new job recently. She gets no respect at all and has not been treated well since she arrived. Her husbands job is for a year and she is already counting the days till they leave and go back to Egypt.

Noura --- Hmm the book is divided into several sections, not only on Lolita but also the the Great Gatsby, James Joyce and shoot I can't think of it. Anyway - I haven't read Lolita and now I want to. I don't think you need to read it to understand because the book (Lolita in Tehran) does a good job of explaining and not simply just referencing. HOWEVER, I wish I would have read Lolita first, and now I'm going to buy it so that I can totally understand. It is a VERY well written book however and I like it. Brick Road is turning out good too - Monica Ali has a new book that I'm on a hunt to buy too lol

There is a hadeeth in which the prophet forbade building raised structures on gravesites and ordered them be leveled so that is probably the reasoning behind that and not that they're trying to show disrespect.

I have several friends (women) who live in Saudi and they absolutely love it. They say they are respected there more than they ever were here. As far as I know, locks on the outside of doors is rare and reserved for the ignorant, which you're going to find no matter what part of the world you go to  It's not perfect but I like it and that's where I want to live someday inshallah. Either there or the UAE but I don't really like it there. Maybe I could move to Libya with Yousuf but.... I don't know :star:

Verse of the day...

Bismillahi rahmaani raheem

"To those who believe in Allah and His messengers and make no distinction between any of the messengers, we shall soon give their (due) rewards: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful."

Al-Qur'an, 004.152 (An-Nisa)

It should be noted that when Allah uses "we" in the Quran, it does not mean there is more than one god but instead it is used to show His majesty.

I'd never care to go to saudi.. I'd be too afraid I'd get forced back into a burning building and die if I left it without my head covering...

Has that happened more than once? Were the men who did that not punished?

Ok I found this "When you differ in any matter refer to Allah and his Messenger" [EMQ 4:59 so some of us are not muslim but would like to find the information you maybe discussing. Where online if you quote from the koran and sunnah can we find what you are discussing? I ordered a koran in english "thanks to rebecca" but won't receive for i don't konw when....and i don't want to get lost in the discussion or have it go over my head...

Angel

Angel,

I also wanted to give you this website. Islamic finder will link you directly to the page to search the Quran. You can even choose which translation you'd like to search. I hope this helps.
