Well its a shame that the terrorists that flew into the buildings, pentagon and ground didnt care to think about how the ripple affect would hurt muslims worldwide. Neither did Hasan think about how his brother and sister muslims would be affected for what he did. Those guys and like OTHER people that murder innocent lives carelessly dont think about how it affects other groups of people at all. I care primarily to not loose sight on the ones that tragedy hit. Us who are alive and have no bullet holes thru us and no memories of seeing co workers falling to the ground or a building crush on them... I think the rest of us handling criticism or insults will Be OK in life.

We need to find solutions, and we need to listen to each other, we need to talk about what all of this means

Good idea. We could begin by talking about hudibiyya (or khudaibiya).

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I am speechless. The guy was a major in the Army, a doctor and a psychiatrist. That takes a lot of effort, education and intelligence to real that level, why did he toss it all away?

Please all take a step back from this topic and refocus.

The shooting at Fort Hood was a tragedy which all of us wish had not happened. It is easy for emotions to flare high when reacting to such tragedies. It is a legitimate question to ask how may this tragedy have a personal impact on other individuals, and that is what I read in the OP's original post, using situations from her own life as examples. I did not see anything that showed a lack of respect or a lack of consideration for the victims in her questions. Let's give the benefit of the doubt to each one involved here that we can share the emotions of the tragedy while recognizing that the ramifications may extend beyond the immediate victims.

Name calling, insinuations, and personal attacks really are not necessary, so unless you have something constructive and helpful to add to this thread, please do not post.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I was not showing sensitivity in my thread. What I was trying to express what how acts like these affect Islam and other people. My family is aware I am marrying a muslim man, so given past and recent events, and have become the black sheep of the family and everyone thinks that because he is muslim, and bc past and recent events that his only agenda is to come here to make another 911 or to convert ppl again their will. The media is not exactly helpful in deterring these incorrect thoughts. Certainly events like these have impacted other vjers lives. And Im wondering how are they dealing with it. I get alot of crass comments where I work bc they know I am marrying a muslim, and bc I have reverted. Seems when we are all in the same pot, we can (should be) able to constructivly communicate about such matters.

Exactly. I think this is a valid concern. Perhaps the discussion can address this issue?

I am now issuing a warning. I said to let it go. If you continue to try and start something by 'stoking the fires' in this manner administrative action will be taken. I repeat, if you have nothing positive to add to this thread, then say nothing at all.

The warning is for everyone. As I said, if you are not able to continue the discussion that is raised in the original post in a positive way, then do not continue at all. If you have problems with a post - as Charles says - use the report button.

Moderation here is no different than in any other thread. Moderators respond to reports - if we get a report, we respond. If we do not get a report, then unfortunately some issues that should be addressed don't get addressed. It has nothing to do with moderators choosing not to respond. If we don't know about it, then we don't have the opportunity to respond, so if you want an issue addressed, use the report button and we will respond.

just a note to add. No, my husband hasnt legally changed his muslim name. People still know it and he isnt bothered by it. He goes by Adam anyways and we go by his last name when referring to our last name even though one day he will have it changed by his own choice, not bcz hes been harassed for having a muslim name. No one has treated him differently around here since the murders at Ft Hood and I assure you they all know hes Egyptian Arab.

So to answer the OPs question... my husband is doing just fine in life with his muslim name, being Egyptian Arab after 9/11 and after Ft Hood.

My best friend was harassed one day driving down the road. She was wearing her hijab and someone from another vehicle yelled out to her asking if she was a nun or a terriorist. Its ashame the things that other people can say to others. Words have a lasting effect, and they actions are seen and words are heard by others and carried on. My mother told me that my fiance should change his name. But she said that for her benefit rather than his. People should never have to change who they are, everyone has differences. Some can be seen and other not.. but we're all from our own mold. And God loves us all as individuals. People should too. Im sure he is doing great with his muslim name, I was just speaking in general of what my family said is all,... and just wondering how the effects of things (things in general, not one specific) ripples to the innocent. You see?
