Occasionally, and I mean rarely our Albertsons has good quality minced/ground lamb and not the jimmy-dean sausage packed stuff either, so peeved we didn't buy more and put it in the freezer last time they had some.

As far as Tea, im not a big tea drinker, I prefer iced tea to hot, but landed a big box of PG Tips from Mum as my parents were staying with us for Christmas and brought a big box with them, and I spent the last morning with them and Paul nattering away whilst scanning pages from her M&S cook books (cookies an Christmas dishes)

Do you have a Costco near you? they have nice enough lamb. Mostly imported from New Zealand of course, but then so is alot of the lamb in the UK.

Yorkshires aren't too hard to make - i tend to make them in a shallow muffin tin...key is to heat up the oil before you put the batter in. Olive oil works just fine if you want to do the healthy thing.

Brown sauce on food is more a northern than a southern 'thing' in the UK. I'm a definite southerner, and more a fan of ketchup. As people have moved around the country it's become less delineated by region, but it's the same kind of idea as putting gravy on chips - you wouldn't find that much in the south but definitely would up north.

And as for the french toast debate: we always called it eggy bread - and put ketchup on it :) though I wouldn't dream of doing that to french toast in the US!

Hubby spent hours at secondary passport screening xmas eve so by the time we got back I was so stressed I forgot the yorkshire puddin. Oh well. My mother in law got me a couple of Jamie Oliver cook books. I got one for my birthday and one for Christmas. I made the minted peas the first day and am trying out some other dishes. His recipes are pretty simple.

I forgot to make the Yorkshires for Thankgiving...pesky things :) fortunately my mum remembered for Christmas!

I like Jamie's recipes too - his bread ones are nice (there's one with thyme and blue cheese which is good if you like that sort of thing). Mostly I like that he doesn't fuss around with presentation. One of the best things I bought since i moved here is a little grams/oz scale - so much better than trying to figure out the cups conversions.

Here's where you can get Irn Bru in the U.S. I've ordered from there once and would say it's worth the cost. It's alleged that the different colouring used changes the taste but I'd say that's either false or it's been so long since I've had a can of ginger in Scotland that it tasted just as amazing to me.

Now, on the question of brown sauce on your French toast... are you daft? It should be ketchup all the way. Still, using brown sauce is more acceptable than applying syrup and cinnamon; that's just gluttonous.

yeah, my husband says we have everything too sweet here! But my taste buds are accustomed to it so when we are in Scotland I feel like everything is too bland or savory. What really surprised me is how popular curry is in the UK. I had never even tried Indian food before visiting Scotland. I think we will end up with an ecllectic mix of foods because we both enjoy some dishes from each other's countries.
