I'm working on our cover letter for the AOS package and I was wondering if I (the US citizen and I assume the Petitioner?) should sign it or if James, the person who is trying to get permanent residence, should sign? I know with the K1 package it was me petitioning for him so I signed all that, is that still the same? I just wonder since all of the forms now relate to him and not me, so it seems like he should be the one signing the cover letter saying hes included all this stuff. What did everyone else do?

James is the one who should sign it as he is the petitioner for the AOS process.

Well, thats what I thought too. The only thing that threw me was when I looked on my I-864 and it says on mine (in one of the first checkboxes) that I am the petitioner applying for the immigration of my relative. I guess that form is used for a lot of other stuff too where the person filling it really would be the petitioner.....

O well, I think I'm trying to overconfuse myself :) Thanks!

JamesMiranda,

Doesn't make any difference who signs it, or if anyone signs it. Or if you even provide one.

Indeed. Its completely unneccessary and unrequired by USCIS. I think the only reason why its a good idea is that it acts as a nice checklist of all the items you've put into the package.
