i think jail time is a waste and does unnecessary harm to the children. A massive amount of community service would serve the public well and their children would not suffer as much.

You do know that children form emotional attachments to their parents, right?

I am not sure that jail time would serve anyone will in this instance but if it is deemed appropriate most often a court will allow parents to serve consecutively rather than concurrently so as not to have an adverse impact on young children. Certainly paying for the $'s wasted by the emergency crews is a must. Effective counseling would be good because clearly there are some distortions to reality going on if you believe that the end desired (being in the media spotlight) was in any way justifiable by the means taken to achieve it.

Ya, at the time of the plea hearing, I was watching it live...

The thing that struck me (paraphrased ) was the Judge saying 'This is the only charge we are issuing in this court'.

At the time, to me, that smelled of a plea bargain - to 'lessen' it all to get a guilty plea. But it was a 'real time ' realization, for me - I'd not done any research about the Heene's 'possible' legal battles , prior.

Oh well. I'll try to search, see if any portal has actually published her 'immigration status' ...

I agree, to a point. However many of the conservatives you speak of are closer to being right wing extremists. If what they stood for was traditional conservative values like fiscal responsibility, family values, tough foreign policy, etc. I wouldn't have a problem with them (heck I might join them) but when I think of modern day conservatives I think of nuts like Limbaugh & Coulter, who are more preoccupied with bashing "libs" and spreading rhetoric/ vitriol than promoting the aforementioned values.

This gets back to my view that the Republican party is a shadow of its former self, with great conservative politicians (e.g. Reagan) being replaced by nut cases & hate mongers.

Coulter and Limbaugh are commentators and not affiliated with any party and are not politicians. They have one goal, entertain their audience and be successful for their parent companies/publishers. Just as Maher and Carville (anymore) aren't officially affiliated with the Dem party. So there can't be double standards there.

I'm not sure, but it seems you forget all of Reagans famous quotes in which he bashes libs quite a bit. He had a lot to say about nationalized healthcare as well, and he blamed liberals by name.
