Okay, so apparently I'm still elated about sign in fail at NVC yesterday. But I'd like to think I have a healthy dose of realism tied in with my optimism, so...here are some reasons for optimism for us Canadians in the CR-1 / IR-1 queue.

-If the backlog in Montreal is a result of staff shortages over the summer, which is widely considered to be the case, then it stands to follow that those shortages will have been filled a month or two afterward, with the new consular officers having been given their training up until this point. This means that their manpower should be increasing very soon.

-It is clear that the director of the consulate is acutely aware of the backlog, and is sympathetic to the plight of us married folks wanting to be with our loved ones. The fact that he mentioned to a few K-1s recently that there will be CR-1 / IR-1 scheduling for December very soon is a GREAT sign.

-As I mentioned in another thread, it's natural for any company / agency to get through a backlog by plowing through it, and not just picking bits off at a time. This is backed up by the recent mass of scheduling done for the K-1s.

-It's getting towards Christmas time, and as Malrothien mentioned in another thread, perhaps (and this is a stretch, but you never know...) there will be an extra helping of Christmas cheer on the part of the consulate, trying to reunite families for the holidays. The consulate deals with MANY different types of visas. Perhaps they'll put all their focus into the family-based ones for December?

-Finally, it stands to reason that since people have been waiting since July for interview dates, that levee HAS to break sooner rather than later.

So...anyone else got some more reasons for optimism?

My opinion for what it's worth, is that they need to acheive deliverables just like any other corporate company and have been working very hard this year to acheive the 5 month processing at USCIV, so it stands to reason that they are doing the same at the consular level. These things will always take time, no matter what.

I am hoping that when I am finished with NVC (estimated to be Dec) **fingers crossed** I can get a March interview!! So I have a vested interest in everyone before going through really quickly!! Here's hoping you all get your Christmas wish!!

They did a LOT of K1 today. When we finished our interview, there was a sea of people who were waiting for their turn at the interview and almost all of them seemed to be K1. So I think its a sign that they are over their backlog...

I was thinking about this last night with the information we got from the Deputy Director.

He stated that they have officers working on visa processing on Saturdays now. Could it be that they are doing interviews during the week that would otherwise be time taken up by visa processing?

Meh... I'll believe it when I see it...

It was super awesome of them to focus on the K1 backlog but frankly? There's still zero movement on the CR/IR1 front. I have lost my little iota of optimism that I had yesterday and am back to being 'meh' about it.

BAH!

You have GOT to be optimistic! There's a LOT of reason for optimism, I assure you.

I will not stand here (okay, SIT here) and allow you to be apathetic or nihilistic. I know it has been tougher for you than for most, given the bad timing of your NVC case complete (which seems to have perfectly dovetailed with the staff shortage at the consulate), BUT you're past that now. So you can start to recharge that optimism I know is in your nature to feel. Wake up each morning with the thought of a cold winter night, curled up with your hubby on the couch.

Hell, *I* believe it's going to be true for you. So you can start believing it's true for yourself.

Hmm. We need a cheerleading emoticon!

Awwwwww... you're such a nugget, Wyatt...

Well, just so you know, I called the NVC just now and had some apathetic, cranky person tell me I don't have an interview yet and read me the spiel. Like I don't know if off my by heart now. Geez.

Anyway, I'm not such a nihilist, really but god damn, get fvcking going already Montreal.

Like I said, if anything, I am agnostic about most things - I don't believe anything until I see it. I don't believe that they are scheduling any more CR interviews for December. They're done.

We can bet money on that or we can not. But I've seen them do this exact same thing for 3 months now. They scheduled 1 CR/IR for December for this site -- that's probably all they can handle.

Next round... end of November for January interviews...

10 buck bet???

:)

Your optimism and cheer is a gorgeous thing! thank you! :D

I will GLADLY take that bet. In fact, I'll SEE that bet, and raise you a Montreal poutine that they haven't finished scheduling CR-1s for December.

By the way, I'm not a faithful person in the religious sense of the word...but I have faith in people, and that things can and generally do work out, despite some exceptions.

I bet we'll see CR-1 / IR-1 interviews scheduled next week. I'm not saying that I'm going to be among them...but I have a good feeling about these visas in general. I can't put my finger on why...just an amalgam of all the things I listed at the beginning of this thread, I guess. :)

So I just went back over the Montreal timeline to interview thread to confirm why some optimism would not be unfounded!

Back in 2007 (which is when we were waiting for my Husband's interview date btw) - Montreal was also backed up for interviews - it was taking the 4-5 months that it is taking now.

Suddenly many CR1/IR1s were scheduled for November/December interviews - the wait time then became around 3 months - up until now. There was cheering in the streets that they had finally fixed this!

Ok, so they hit a road bump this year, however I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of CR1/IR1 interviews come rolling in now

Ladies and gentlemen, we have DATA! Some actual DATA to support my optimism.

Can I get an amen?

He he.

Damn, if it wasn't for the whole "not being religious" thing, I'd make a great preacher. :D

Wyatt, Trailmix.... you're a couple of real sweeties!

Thanks for letting me vent and rant and stuff.

And Mal? Case complete soon for you too and then we can all sit in a huddled bunch waiting with bated breath.

Wyatt -- bet is ON! Just an FYI, I am not a religious person either but I do have faith in poutine so we'll bet on that.

Unless I have sushi the night before, in which case it might be baited.
