Violent death is something that isn't for everyone to witness in person. It makes quite an impression.

A normal person will always be affected by the site of a person being killed in cold blood. It is alien to the normal psyche.

Cold blood... tragically in an accident... and in an execution. It really puts sentient life into perspective. I recommend such a thing to the macho men out there that chickenhawk their way through life.

not sure what you mean

Just those people that macho their way through a conversation. No, I'm not placing you in that 'demographic.' Its admirable that you would not wish to be present at such an execution. I'd rather not see one again although I do think the punishment of death would fit the crime.

Oh ok I see, thanks. You witnessed a execution?, how did that come about?

A childhood friend was murdered by her BF. I was allowed to attend with some family members.

Terrible, I couldn't even imagine.

No one can choose to be an executioner, they are assigned that duty. I presume there is a mechanism to refuse, but I expect it is quite difficult to do so. Read about the life of executioners. They are rarely advocates of capital punishmen.

Learning to 'deal' with exectution is very different from learning to deal with other tasks that are associated with the dead or dying. Most people do not want to think about it but we all should because it is done in the name of each and every one of us. I think you would make an excellent witness to an execution Simpson from your respopnse but I would much rather you did not ever have to be one and I would much rather US society aligned itself with European thinking on this. Maybe some day it will.

That would be something good for me to look into, I really dont know much about how a executioner gets the job. I would think that if he/she was strongly opposed to it that they wouldn't be forced to do it.

Im not sure I see the significance of "in the name of each and every one of us".

I don't think enough people think about the significance of the death penalty and how they would really feel if they had to witness it. US society has, rightly in my opinion, decided that execution is not a form of entertainment that everyone can turn up to but by the same token the result is that even though this is done in all our names very few of us know first hand what this actually means.

I believe it is much more complicated than that.

I think it is too, but I can't discount the meat of what he stated.

Indeed. Check out the post immediately above this quote box.

One can't confuse the number 1 with the number 2. 2 comes after 1, is not equal to it, yet some people insist that it is. And when someone says '1'... only a schizophrenic hears '2.'

Gezz man you cannot be that much of a biased c-nt. Admit the f'n problem and then work from there.

You have the same assignment as Pike and Rob. If I am wrong, then people of the same socioeconomic class around the world should also behave in the same manner. They too should also have a murder rate of 32 per 100,000. A rape rate as high as AA.

Unfortunately for you, it's an uphill battle. People in 2nd and 3rd world countries have lower homicide rates that that of African Americans. Or is someone living in the slums in India have better "socioeconomic circumstances" than an African American teenager?

Once again, this is not racial oriented but cultural.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

There is a lot of truth to that simple concept.

Demonstrably, there is not. Whatever capital punishment does achieve, what it does not achieve is deterrence. Such glib comments are not very useful at all and it is a shame that you and Joe chose to diminish the tone of this thread in this way.
