Which pets that are legal here are illegal in Australia? There are a lot more restrictions on pets here in California than the rest of the country. We do have our share of nutjobs though. I had a friend who lived down in Orange County whose neighbor was arrested and had to pay massive fines because he had a komodo dragon and a gila monster as pets.

I don't know about CA in particular but Reptiles of any sort are prohibited in metro areas. Not to mention, pythons and even most Aus snakes are not prohibited.

Even the crazy American Pitbull is also banned. Most have already been put down.

Yeah, because the it's the breed itself that is the problem, not the owner and training.

Good job of showing how "enlightened" and progressive Oz is by saying that y'all are "putting down" an entire breed of dogs for something that isn't any fault of their own.

Chopf##k.

Fault? Who gives a #### if it's the dogs fault.. This breed was banned there because they have had huge problems with it. Case after case of kids being mauled to death or disfigured was enough concern to have them banned. Most remaining dogs had to be turned in to be put down. Contrary to the bullshit many who own them spout, it's a fact that the breed has a flaw, where it can snap at any minute. Nothing to do with the owner or any other biased poor dog rubbish.

Try explaining your bullshit to the person mauled down by two of these that escaped from a owners apartment in San Fran. Oh wait the victim is dead.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Yeah. The PitBull regardless of their domestication snaps uncontrollably. When humans snap, there are no warning signs sometimes. What about pitbull? Can we predict when they snap?

I feel sorry for that poor woman. However, I believe in "respecting" all animals. Chimps are NOT pets! The chimp did what a chimp does...I am not surprised by the chimps actions, I am surprised that she lived. She is blessed.

I don't know about that - she's got to get through the rest of her life looking like that and being dependent on others to take care of her basic needs. Not a way I'd want to live - better perhaps for the chimp to finish the job.

From what I understand the woman's friend who owned the chimp was sedating it with a mixture of prescription medication to control anxiety, but at the same time she was also giving it allergy meds. Supposedly the mixture of the drugs in its is what caused the chimp to go nuts - it was basically tripping out and acted in the only way that wild animals do when they're scared - with aggression.

My heart goes out to that woman. :(

I'm wondering if that after enough physical healing if she will be able to get cosmetic surgery of some sort or a face transplant. I hope she doesn't have to live the rest of her life with how her face is now. Gosh, I'm actually getting misty-eyed.

Off topic: has anyone heard anything about the little boy from Iraq named Yousef (or something like that) who was set on fire, horribly disfigured, and flown to the USA with his family for surgeries? Anyone remember reading about that?
