Marriage certificate

I am divorced, so why do I need a marriage certificate for a K1 visa. Anyone else provide a marriage certificate?

When I got my interview date, it was listed as being required, but not when I mailed the last packet back before getting my date. (I hope i`m not confusing everyone, i`m running on no sleep with a housefull of very annoying people here)

The woods are lovely, dark and deep; But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep...

At my K-1 interview in montreal they asked for the marriage certificate and the divorce certificate of my husband. They wanted originals and copys of both. - Just my experience tho.

some people have been asked (Inky being one of them) so while its suppose to be marriage cert for your current marriage they can ask to see the old ones as well, which is why we advise bringing a copy of it just incase.

I`m trying to get hold of the certificate. I think my ex may have destroyed it. (He ripped pics and the certificate out of our wedding album. He has anger management issues)

If you google Vital statistics for the province that you were married in (assuming you were married in Canada) you should be able to request on. They usually cost about $40 to get one. I had ordered mine a few weeks ago and in packing up some of my stuff tonight....I found the original.....UGH!

Thanks Colleens! I just sent a request for one. Am having it couriered also, so another $20 on top of the $40. I will be sooooo glad when this is over...my nerves are getting frazzled.

Really seems like hit and miss Jo...at one time Vancouver was the only one asking for the marriage and divorce certificates, and Montreal didn't require the marriage ones...however it still seems like some people get asked at both places. You really don't have enough time to get yours, unless you're able to expedite it? Mainly I think it's just to track name changes if you're female. If you can't get it, you can't. If they DO ask for it, you'll have to send it to them later I suppose and they'll hold off on issuing you the visa until they get it. Don't say you don't have it, let them ask for it if they want it.

Thanks a lot...no I don`t really have time to get mine because we will stay in Montreal (I live at 2 hours drive from Montreal) and my fiance is leaving on 26th so don`t think so we will drive home to see if it`s in the mail (even I order it now I don`t expect to have it on time)l...I have always kept my maiden name... I got married after the QC law that a woman keep her name after marriage...so that should not be an issue! I have my divorce decree and my divorce certificate both translated and notarized.

Hope it will be ok!

Thanks again for your help

I think if I could get some sleep I would be ok. I sleep 4 hours and then i`m awake.

You don't need it. I was asked for all the same documents, my lawyer saud just get the divorce decree...which I did, and I was fine. I think they list it as generic requirements, perhaps for those filing K3's ad CR visa's...as in your 'current' marriage cert....

again, I was confused, but got my visa no problem without it.

Good luck :)
