Advice on getting Montreal to let us pick up our visa?

My fiancee has her K1 interview in Montreal on Friday and I'll be attending with her. We want to return to the USA together on Monday after picking up the visa at the embassy, so that I can get back to work. Obviously I'm hoping we can convince them to let us pick it up instead of mailing it. If not, then I'll need to return to the USA to go to work, then come back on Thursday or Friday (whenever she receives the visa in the mail).

When I've emailed them they said that they only allow pickups by people with valid work visas in the USA. Does anyone know if they allow next-day pickups on a case by case basis, or is it a hard and fast rule?

I think it is largely a "hard and fast rule" with very occasional exceptions.

I suppose it's worth a shot for you to try, but I'd wager that your situation wouldn't warrant expediting, in their eyes.

Can't hurt to ask, but definitely plan for waiting for it to come in the mail especially now that they seem to be backlogged and under staffed.

I asked if I could pick mine up the next day - NO WAY - it's expresspost only I was told but..it never hurts to ask. Good luck.

I think you'd have to have a pretty good reason to get them to let you pick it up, and at the very least, you'd have to have a better reason than convenience.

PS - if they don't allow you to pick it up, I wouldn't count on 1 week to come back and pick ehr up...make it 2. if the interfview is Friday, they aren't getting all the paper work ready to mail out that day, the processing they do takes a couple days. Count on 10-14 days from the interview to be sure. Even with your priority post envelope, tracking seldom works on Canada Post so it will be hard to tell when it will arrive
