I went today to get my AZ drivers license. The website does not mention a test so I got a surprise written exam. I passed so that was cool. Now I finally have some ID showing where I live. The DMV did not live up to the horror stories you hear. It was pretty fast and they were really friendly.

Applied for the SSN too, what a long wait. He said up to 4 weeks because they did not show me in the system yet. He said K2 can't apply for SSN until they have an EAD. Does that sound right?

*January 24 2006 - mailed in I129-F petition

*January 25 2006 - I129-F received at CSC

*January 30 2006 - packet returned.....arggggggggg we forgot one signature!!

*January 31 2006 - sent I129-F back to the CSC, hope we did not forget anything else

*February 1 2006 - I129-F received at CSC again

*February 3 2006 - NOA1

*April 20 2006 - NOA2!!!!!

*April 24 2006 - Touched!

*May 15 2006 - NVC received petition today!

*May 17 2006 - Case left NVC today!!

*May 30 2006 - Received Packet 3 from Vancouver!

*May 30 2006 - Faxed back Packet 3!!

*June 6 2006 - Received packet 4!

*June 20 2006 - Medical in Saskatoon

The DMV did not live up to the horror stories you hear. It was pretty fast and they were really friendly.

Try going to a DMV in or near Los Angeles, and you'll see why the DMV gets a bad rep!

It is true that a K-2 cannot obtain a SSN until/unless they receive an EAD. If an EAD isn't needed for the K-2, then an ITIN can be requested at tax time for the child.

ITIN?

Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) The IRS issues them to people that need a TIN for tax purposes and aren't eligible to be assigned an SSN. The will need to submit an IRS form W-7 along with your tax forms to have the child issued one.

If the child is issued an ITIN make sure you notify IRS when he or she is assigned an SSN.

You can contact the ITIN office at 1-215-516-4846 if you have any questions.

No answer on the SSN for K2?

I am not sure what K2 is, but I have a K1 visa and got SSN in a week with no problem and without EAD. All I had to show them was I94 and passport. And it was done in Orange County in California
