All this paperwork and knowing what to do is getting very frustrated. People telling me to get my social number, but it says that i can't if it's too early or if it's too late.

And now i'm trying to figure heads or tails of the I-485, if anyone would be so kind as to help this poor confused girl.

i'm confused by

A# & I-94 #

asking for both, aren't they the same number?

Under "current USCIS Status" no clue what to write in there.

Mother's first name do they mean (same for father)

Family first name or they're actual Name.

and along with my application what should be included

i'll have these along with me

I-765 ( Employment Authorization)

(travel form)

The fee check

Marriage certificate

----------------------------

and by any chance what is this I-94, they seem to talk about it alot. i think it said to send it in or something, i never received

a form I-94 or filled one out.

Woman, girls back to our kitchens!

You (being from Canada) probably didn't get an I-94 in your passport (am guessing) when you crossed the border.

Am skipping most of your first questions because all of them are answered in the:

The thing that helped me a lot was the K-1 Flowchart - it breaks things down step by step, telling you what to do and about when to do it - the guides and example forms fill in the details.

You can apply for your SSN about 10 days after your arrival. You need to apply for it no later than 2 weeks before the I-94 expires.

No. When you crossed the border you should have received an off white card with a perforated edge stapled into your passport near your K-1 visa. It will have written on it the date your 90 days allowed by the K-1 visa is up. Printed into the corner of the I-94 will be a number. That is the I-94 number. You will also find a hand-written number on the I-94 as well as on your visa itself. It starts with the letter A -for 'alien' - thus is called your A number.

Under "current USCIS Status" no clue what to write in there.

Your status is K-1 visa holder

Mother's first name do they mean (same for father)

Family first name or they're actual Name.

I am not sure what you are asking here. Basically they want the first name - the name they are usually called - where it says 'first name' and the last name - also known as the family name or surname - where it says Family Name.

I-765 ( Employment Authorization)

The fee check

Marriage certificate

You will need to include the Vaccination part of the I-693 showing that your vaccinations are complete for your age and gender - or at very least a copy of the vaccination worksheet that you should have received at your immigration medical in Canada.

Your husband needs to provide the Affidavit of Support - I -864. This is different than the I-134 that he submitted for the K-1. There are documents that need to be attached to the I-964 as well. They are listed on the instructions for the form.

The travel document is called an Advance Parole - form I-131. Treat the I-765 and the I-131 as separate applications so they will need their own copies of the requested documents, photographs, etc. You will mail them with the I-485 but USCIS will divide the package into 3 separate parts and process each application individually.

Read over the information here on VJ about the AOS process as well as read over all of the forms themselves and the instructions for those forms.

As I mentioned before the I-94 should be stapled inside your passport near the K-1 visa. The I-94 is your proof that you entered the country legally and activated your visa. If you did not receive one, you will need to go back to the Port of Entry and talk to the Border authorities so they can issue you one. They should have issued the I-94 when you handed in your sealed envelope. You would not have filled it out - they would have. Did you cross by land or by air? If you crossed by land you would have had to pay $6 for the I-94. If you crossed by air, the fee was included in with your airfare.
