I have been working steady at my current job for the last 6 months. I did not work for awhile before that. I'm only making minimum wage but I am getting a second part time job in the next couple days to meet the poverty guide line. I have already started the K1 case in september and i know soon they will want my income information. Will they deny me since i have not had a job for a full year and only will be meeting the poverty guideline when i get my second part time job in a couple days? I'm afraid they will say i have not held it long enough and deny the case. I work really hard and it's all for my fiancee. I have only missed 1 day at my current job in the past 6 months because I was sick. I also send my fiancee several hundred dollars a month to help support her already even though she has a job as a school teacher and has a good work history already. I have all the proof of having steadily sent money to my fiancee to support her so will they look at that? I mean even with my current full time job I am making a little above minimum wage but i have enough to support myself, pay all the bills and even send money to my fiancee and STILL have a steadily increasing bank account. will they take that into consideration or not? It's just been so hard to find a second job and i'm afraid i'm cutting it too close and they will deny the case. please any advice is appreciated. thx.

Well once you get accepted and go to the consulate they need your tax returns and a letter from your job stating how long you've been working there and what you make in a year there. Basically its all about how long you've been working there, how much you make a year, how much is on your bank account and taxes. For the consulate you have to meet 100% of the poverty guide lines and 125% when in america. if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Sorry, but it's not about how long you've been working there. Yes, get employment letters stating that you are employed but you will also need to show that you meet 125% of the poverty line for 2 people (assuming neither of you have any other dependents), as you are applying for a K1. Not 100%. You can use recent pay slips to show your income and if your salary is not fixed (as in hourly and variable) then you will need to calculate an average over a certain period. If she interviews before approx. Feb 2010, the current level at 125% is $18,212 per annum and is a gross income. So it doesn't matter what you are sending her now, the main thing is that you earn that level before tax and other deductions.

It's about what you make at the time of interview and is the income steady and reliable (i.e. is your contract permanent or fixed-duration). Different embassies also require different proof and have varying criteria for satisfying them. Some accept a co-sponsor, others don't.

Your best bet is to repost this (or ask to have it moved) to the PI regional board.

Timeline Summary:

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017

The decision is subjective. So here is a guy who is working two jobs and has employment letters and recent check stubs, he meets the poverty guidelines, I do not think you will have a problem. Doesn't sound to me like someone that is likely to go on welfare. You can show your bank information if you want but it is not necessary. Current income is most important. If you made -0- last year because you were a student and now meet the guidelines, you will be OK. If you made $385,000 last year and are currently unemployed, you will probably need a co-sponsor (unless all that money is now is assets).

You cannot change the past, it is what it is, so stop worrying about it. Just do what you can to have a good income now (when the interview time comes) and you will be fine.
