Transcripts are generally needed.

You can request them to the IRS and they come in the mail in a few days. And it's free.

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is sufficient to take copies of our tax returns to the citizenship interview or do I need to obtain tax transcripts? I am hoping that copies of the returns will be enough.

Thanks

Andrea

Tax returns are accepted as long as you have the corresponding W2 forms that go with them. They're not valid by themselves. Also, you don't have to take the original documents, photocopies are accepted.

Since the only sheet that looks original since I download all my forms is the one I paste the IRS label to and just send copies of that to the fed and state IRS. We brought in that original with the label on it with 1099's and W-2's attached with zero problems and my wife's IO was super paranoid and critical.

If you don't mind share, would you please tell me...

What happaned at the Interview ? Did the IO request IRS transcripts as a better proof of your tax returns ?

I don't know how long you have to wait till the interview time. If you are about a couple of weeks away, just don't waste time, call IRS(1-800-829-1040) and request for your transcript. When you call, hold on to the line, till you hear a live from a live person, then take it from there. It took only 3 days for mine to come in, although the lady(very courteous) had said it would be 4-7 days.

No, she did not, but was looking for some bill we paid in 2008, idiot didn't know we paid our property tax and income taxes for 2007 in 2008, but we had a bill that was paid in 2008. she copied that and was happy. Wife's interview was 17Jul2008. Could have an IO that doesn't even want to see your original evidence.
