I guess I'm not opposed to the idea of some kind of super poll. But I don't think a poll is really necessary to address the issues that I and others have brought up. Respect for the membership, moderating instead of pushing buttons, listening instead of assuming. These are the issues that need to be addressed with regards to moderation, and they need to be addressed within.

I have sent out an email to all members that were active and have a post within the last 60 days... it contains a link to a survey with several questions regarding the site including moderation. As a note, no moderators or myself had the email sent to them as we are being rated in the survey (and it would potentially be unfair).

I've reported this type of 'power jockeying' before. I don't know if the moderators deal with it or not. If they do, it doesn't work for very long. Same old $hit, different day.

This is only mildly offensive. I get a lot worse on a regular basis from this person.

Just took a look at the survey, and I'm not really convinced that it's going to give you a true measure of the effectiveness of your moderation team. The "effectiveness" question, for example, doesn't have an answer for those who haven't had any interactions with moderators. This would skew the result one way or the other, probably in the direction of "very helpful" or "average." There is a "no answer" selection, but I think it would have been better to include a "no interaction" or somesuch answer.

This question:

If you have ever contacted a moderator or the admin with a concern, do you feel as though your concern was addressed?

seems to imply only a single contact. I've probably contact moderators over a dozen times since I became a member. Often they were helpful, lately they have not been. I chose to use my most recent experiences, but it's worded strangely.

The biggest problem I see with this poll is the vague and general nature. Even if everyone puts down the most negative answers, all you'll really know is that there is a problem with moderation. If everyone puts down positive answers then you'll be left with the impression that everything is fine. And if you get a mix, then...well I really don't know what you could glean from that.

I didn't report it.

I feel like I should clarify my comment above wherein I stated that I don't know if moderators have dealt with my complaints before. And I should clarify because on SOME occasions where I have reported, a Mod has stepped into the thread (as they did after your report). But - they don't always.

They don't always because the current policy of Moderation is to handle stuff via PM. So just because we don't see a reprimand doesn't mean it didn't occur. And when I've reported stuff like this before (on any member) I don't always get a response either. That honestly doesn't bother me. I don't expect a report back from the Mod - I'm not their Mother.

Therefore - when I commented that I don't know if Mods have handled my complaints - that wasn't entirely accurate. The present system is structured (I feel) to protect the offenders. And that is not the fault of the Mods.

THAT is why I don't like handling 'issues' via PM. Let the community see what is happening.

You know why I feel like I'm qualified to comment on this? Because I can 'snark' with the best of them. When I 'misbehave' on these boards, I do it on purpose. I do it because someone is being rude, nasty or mean to other people. I do it because someone is being a social moron. I do it because I don't put it up with it in my daily life. It might not be my place on Vj to challenge them, but I do. When Moderation has thought I was out of line - they've stepped in. I rarely receives PM's about my behavior and I like it that way.

I received the survey. The responses in regards to moderation are of the yes/no variety. Not very helpful to address what is going on in my opinion, the good and the bad. But maybe the first step in the right direction.

idk about here. but, on another site i PT mod on. ...no not there-sherdog.com.

the admin wants modding to be done in a office or work fashion...supervisor to employee. praise in public - reprimand in private. to avoid embarrasment to the member & resentment towards mods from other members.
