Hello, I don't know where to put this thread. I'll just post it here, since it has something to do with the I-485.

I'm in the process of applying for U.S. citizenship. I want to keep my current citizenship and they make me apply for it. I have to list several reasons why I want to keep it and why I want the U.S. citizenship. One of the reasons I listed was that as a GC holder I can't receive public means. If I remember right, they would sue my spouse, right? I gotta attach proof and looked up the I-485 form ( instructions ) , but I can't find that part anywhere.

Sicne there are a lot of people here who are dealing with the I-485, I hope somebody can help me. Where do I find this?

I don't think 'I want to receive public means' is a good reason to list as why you want to become a US citizen. But, it's your application!

At any rate, they know their own rules - why do you have to prove it? Does the form ask for proof or?

I think what you're looking for would be on the I-864 (or in the instruction or both). (I wouldn't list that as a reason by the way.)

P.S

Don't forget to complete the German requirement for keeping your German citizenship (you may already know you have to complete some form for the German government letting them know you are going to obtain US citizenship but wish to keep you German citizenship; if in fact you do.) :star:

lol, yeah, I know what I have to fill out. I didn't say that I " want to receive public means" I think it is a good reason, because it is a disadvantage. They said I can list "social services" that I wouldn't receive without having the U.S. citizenship. That's not the only reason, obviously. Yes, they make us provide them with proof. I did look at the instrucion's form, but I can't find it. Maybe it was the Affidavit of Support form... I'll look that this one now. Was that the I-134? I don't remember which form I submitted for my AOS.

That's a good way to get denied for citizenship... telling them to want to take advantage of the "social services" available only to citizens.

I believe the OP is explaining to his country of original citizenship why he wants to get US citizenship, not explaining to the

US why he wants US citizenship.
