Hello all fellow VJers,

I am wondering, if any of you out there with an active security clearance been through this process. I mean, the potential impact of marring a foreign national to your active security clearance? Thank you very much for your insights. Thanks!

Depends on the clearance and where your other half is from. It has little affect on some . is an annoyance for others and causes you to lose others.

OK, thanks for the reply, but have you gone through this before, assuming you have a security clearance? I don't think I understand what you are trying to say, so let's use this example:

Petitioner has TS SSBI, and the other half is from China. Thanks again!

If your TS comes with a foreign contact reporting requirement you already know the pain in a small way. Now that she is part of your family every call home or to a friend may be reportable. The SSBI you have to look at the contract restrictions. Some are broad no foreign family members others are country specific such as no middle eastern nationals on a contact for items to be delivered to Israel . If you have properly reported your "close and continuing relationship" then you probably already triggered whatever security issues you are going to encounter. If you haven't mentioned her to them you may be in bigger trouble for that then her nationality. Unless you are direct government employee you can read the NISPOM manual for the basics if you eant a real snuzzer of a book

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Does this security clearance include the SCI and polygraph? If so, serious trouble abounds for you, with respect to your job.....I left the Government over this issue and am still happy for the decision. Love overtakes a job anytime.....

8 years on and we are still together. We have a baby now...Well, she is almost two...speaking two languages...What a bonus that is....

All the best to you going forward,

William.

Some have reported it takes longer (at just over one month in, you would not me a good judge of that) others say no affect. There is no clinical evidence that the ones that "took longer" were in any way related to security clearance issues. The people that could confirm or deny this speculation...will not.

I thought that was what William just did.

If you did not tell them about her already, you had best do it ASAP. It's revocation worthy to not tell them (ties back to issues of truthworthiness and honesty and from their point of view, if you two had nothing to hide, you should not have problems telling them), if they find out (and they will, because as you know, you have to tell them every little detail from foreign travel and ties with foreigners, and you bet your sweet blippy that an I129F in your name would get their attention when they talked to hte DoS), and you may have fines and/or imprisoned for a period of five years if they think you outright lied to them.

I don't know what clearance my husband had, he never talked about it, said it was classified. When I asked what level it was all he would tell me was that it was high enough to get onto the Groom Lake, NV base. He said he lost that clearance when we got married. =( I felt bad for him but he said he didn't mind.

It can definitely impact the process and your job. How much probably depends on details you can't disclose here as well as your Chinese loved one's background. For instance, if I were in your shoes I'd have been praying even harder that no questions were asked about the background of my father inlaw, a retired Major General in the PRC Army. Fortunately none of the children were ever party members.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
