New Austin Application Support Center

I just found this article from the Austin American Statesman, which says that there's a new Application Support Center in Austin. I had no idea about this, but I'm pleased, as it'll save me a trip to San Antonio, not to mention the cost of renting a car (neither I nor my husband own one) and possibly a hotel room! Yay!

On the other hand, it would have been kinda nice for my husband and I to make a nice day trip out of our San Antonio visit.

Yup - it's been open since June I think - nice and shiny too. We were pleasantly surprised to learn of it just in time for our bio - not that we mind San Antonio, its just a ways to go for a 10-minute thing..

Yes, San Antonio is a long way to go for such a short appointment. And I did always wonder why San Antonio had an immigration centre when Austin, as the capital, didn't.

The only bad thing about this Austin office is that it's about eighteen miles away from my home, and it will be a nightmare getting there without a car. I foresee a long, long bus ride, and multiple changes.

I had my biometrics there, too.

You will still get to make your trip to San Antonio...that's where your interview will take place! :-)

Shoot for the moon - even if you miss, you'll land among the stars...

I see you did a walk-in biometrics appointment. How did that go? Were there any problems because you turned up early?

Oh, I didn't realize I would have to go to San Antonio for the interview. I thought that would happen in Austin, too. Oh, well, yeah, I guess my husband and I will get our day trip.

I just wish my NOA's would turn up now. They only received my package in Chicago on November 5th but, still...I'm impatient! I see you received yours incredibly quickly!

The walk-in was totally easy. I went in there and the security guy checked my papers. He took it to a lady, because my AOS is in my married name, but my passport shows my maiden name. She came to thank me in person that I had brought our marriage certificate! She said that lots of times people don't bring it and then they can't process it. She took me right over to the fingerprint area and I was in and out in about 10 minutes. Everybody was super friendly.

The office in Austin is an ASC (Appointment Service Center), but the interview takes place at a USCIS office. The nearest one is San Antonio, if you live in Austin.

I received the NOA's about 12 days after my package arrived. In my signature I put down the date that was on the NOA, but the date when I received them was later. Yours will come soon, I'm sure!
