The Christmas movies idea could work though. Maybe rent a bunch and make some Christmas food/drink (not eggnog though!) and watch them, cuddle and eat food.

I say cook a lot of yummy american comfort food and hang some christmas lights in the house. They're cheap enough and easy to take down & bring back to the US. Just having christmas lights makes it feel like christmas.

Morning everyone. And to all the eggnog lovers....gross hehe

Talked to Del about the Christmas movies idea and he wasn't having it. I have such a grinch!!! Although after he repeated I hate Christmas like a thousand times I got upset and we talked about it a bit. I think the issue is this. When he was a kid they did Christmas a bit. Not so much like we all do in the states, but the family would at least all come together. A present or two and a big dinner with the WHOLE family. When his mom died when he was 12 (on Dec 12th) NO ONE came for Christmas that year and since then they have done nothing for Christmas. I guess his mom used to be the one that brought everyone together.

I kept explaining that Christmas was all about spending time with your family and he was saying that it's all superficial and no one really cares because even after his mom died they should have still got together, but no one did. So he feels like the families are just acting the enjoyment of being together or something? I don't know.

I finally got across to him that the only reason Christmas is the best time to spend time with family is not because it's Christmas, but because everyones off work and school and there are so many traditions for everyone to do together. You just can't explain in words what it's like to sit in the living room with all the lights in the house off minus the Christmas tree lights and the whole family sitting there together drinking warm drinks, eating yummy cookies and talking.

Good news is that he promised to try to like Christmas with my family next year....

Marina, I've had problems with Christmas too. I guess mostly because i've had divorced parents, blah blah blah, i wont get into it now. So I've decided that now with my family, charles, the baby, i want to turn this holiday into something nice, a good celebration. It's not too late for Del to change his attitude towards Christmas.
