In the moment, I think it can be hurtful if you don't recognize what is going on but yes, I am quite sure my parents knew full well I didn't hate them at all. It's not like it was a constant thing. Anyway, I'm ready if my kid says it...although I have a feeling he might not be one of 'those' kids.

Exactly right -- wise words

I hear a lot of people saying they would "do it differently" than their folks. I would not. They put emphasis on -I think- the right things. They were able to know our strengths and weaknesses and push us to succeed in the areas they knew we would be good at. We did not inherit their frustrations (don't you hate a frustrated pageant mom? a psycho hockey dad? I do) and became individuals; not their clones.

And I agree with that statement, my mom treated me right, I owe what I am to her and I would not have liked to be spoiled by her in any way. She still loved me, I still loved her, our relationship is great, but I wasn't cut any slack whatsoever.

then I actually screamed like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH as loud as I could for like 30 seconds. I had a sore throat the next day.
