I went to my interview appointment for a naturalization test. Because I am deaf they were unable to conduct the interview. They said I would be reschedueled an interview in 2 months. Will I receive a new letter with appointment day and time? HAs anybody had to rescheduel an interview? What was the process. How long did you have to wait for the second interview?

Yes, you should receive a new letter with a new date and time. Did they say they would provide a translator for you or are you required to bring one with you? If they are providing the translator it may depend upon his/her availability. Generally they try to make the new appointments relatively soon after the rescheduled one. Good luck.

Hi Nautilus,

Sorry to hear about your situation for a delayed interview. Frankly, I think that it was irresponsible of them to schedule you an interview, and not have an interperter or other accomodation available for that first interivew, despite indicating beforehand that you have a disability and that you would need such an accomodation for that day, which they legally have to provide for you for free when asked for such. (I assume you submitted the N-648 disability exemption form with your N-400 application, requesting for such).

Nevertheless, I hope you get rescheduled for an interview soon, and that the second time around, you will have the necessary accomodation that you need to successfully pass your interview too. As well, they should not hold that against you that you had to have another interview scheduled, just because of their mistakes. If there is a longer delay because of this and/or if you are not able to have your accomodation, by all means, file a complaint with the USCIS and/or with your local senator/congressman/ombudsman regarding such....

Everyone has a right to US citizenship, regardless of disability! And special accomodiaton should be provided otherwise....

Disability=Ability=Citizenship...:)

Hope this helps. Good luck with the rest of your journey and good luck in getting your second interview soon too.

And yes, to post your experience here on vj about your interview and oath too. (hmm..I wonder if they will provide an interperter for your interview and oath..)
