Whoa.

My MIL had the botox injection for pain in her back - she ended up having a heart attack from it.

It is a toxin, after all. :P She had it done a second time (before we knew it was the botox that had caused the heart attack) and instead of relieving her pain, it bunched up at the bottom of her neck and looked like she was a hunchback.

The thing is, no one seems willing to work with me. The chiropractors I've spoken with get concerned when I mention it's an old injury and tell me I should be seeing my regular doctor. My regular doctor doesn't seem concerned that it's an old injury and keeps telling me it'll get better when I lose weight (I've already lost over 100lbs). So yeah....pain.

That's weird. Mine's a very old injury but I've never had anyone not want to look after it.

Congrats on losing the 100lbs! Wow. That is awesome.

It's obvious that different Dr's will have varying opinions...but i'm with Krikit...i've been one of the lucky one's that has found relief on a 10 year injury....

I'm lucky that my Chiropractor is my husband

I really dont' like chiropractors. I had a problem with my lower back and my doctor sent me to one. My back would feel better for about 12-18 hours then it would go right back to where it was before. I had to pay a $40 co-pay to feel better for 12 hours #######. On top of that, he was one of those chiropractors who thinks that they are able to cure everything. <_<

You really have to have an understanding for how it works...Chiro is not meant to cure you, all the time... there are so many ailments relating to why you would see a Chiro....discs, joints, ligaments, etc... some can be treated, some cured, some managed.... you can't blame your type of ailment on the Chiro....many times people don't manage their care properly....because of just that....they don't get the miracle results they expect....then flake on their care, and blame the Dr or the approach....

People take Advil and Tylenol for 12 hours of relief, why not do Chiro for the same result? With less effect on your liver and kidneys?

Depending on what the injury is, there is a wide range of treatments available...it's not all just 'adjusting and cracking your back'.... I have had every type of therapy known to man, physio, Osteo, Chiro, Acupuncture, botox injection therapy (yes they use botox in the disc to reduce pain....surgery..micrdsctomy....you name it.... some things worked, some didn't....They really have to know what is wrong with you, beyond 'just back pain'....MRI's have been helpful for me....I now do regular sessions and do decompression....I actually have my back stretched to decompress the disc....this has worked for me...

Again...it's easy to either not have the proper care, or for you to not to commit to treatment and then comment on the fact that it is the method or the field that you oppose...

And even though I do regular therapy, I still have periods where I have a flare up and am immobile , but this does not mean that I abandon my maintaining ongoing therapy....you could find Chiro's for as little as $20-30 for a cash visit...

Seeing a chiropractor every day for 12 hours of ease of pain is ridiculous, not to mention exhorbitantly prohibitive. I went to a chiropractor for 8 months, 1-2 times per week in earnest. I did all the outpatient therapy as well as the in-office therapy. It would feel better for 12 hours maximum then back to where it was. After 8 months, I had the option to renew my claim with my health insurance provider, but declined. It wasn't working for me and what is worse, it was costing me more and more money, for little good. I have been to two other chiropractors since then for flare ups, but the same course plays out. What I found disturbing is that 2 of the 3 felt that chiropractics was able to help cure almost anything that ails you. I understand that the spine is more than just what holds you up, but come on, a chiropractor cannot positvely effect liver function.

What did work for me was getting back to swimming and eventually easing into water polo and yoga.

Why do postal delivery people do stupid things like LEAVE YOUR FRIGGING PACKAGE OUTSIDE THE STOOP IN BALTIMORE CITY...?

It's not like we are living in the white picket fenced houses in Columbia or Ellicott City in Maryland... we are in downtown Baltimore... where theft is unbelievably high.

So today the USPS person who delivers drops a very big but super duper lightweight package at the neighbor's stoop. The package is huge, it doesnt fit in the mail box. But its very light... like I can lift it with my index and thumb fingers. The weather calls for strong wind... and of course the package FLIES to the middle of the street...

And did I mention we live in downtown Baltimore, where there is a DONT LEAVE PACKAGES ON DOOR STOOP mandate...???

UGH.

So the busybody that I am, I take my neighbor's package in. I guess in a way this is a good opportunity to meet the neighbors :P

NOW I know what happened to my first wedding dress, which mysteriously never came to our house... even though the USPS said it was "delivered".

Good to know Ellicot city and columbia are safe, were buying in that area this Spring, lol I think soem parts of Ellicot city are crummy though. Been looking at soo many areas, I;m all confused, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Whereas alcohol can. I think we can safely say that alcohol is the cure to back pain.

Awwww, that's so nice of you to bring the package, darkchilde. :)

Sorry about your wedding dress, though. :(

USPS and UPS/FedEx leave packages on my doorstep also. Luckily, I have learned to ask my neighbour to fetch them in if I'm away. <_<

Edited to remove the thumbs-up smiley in case someone thinks I'm being snarky. lol

Oh wait! What if someone thinks my laughing smiley is being rude??

OMG you guys are coming to Maryland too??? OOOOHHH lemme know when!!! Or are you in Maryland? Most of Ellicott City is really safe... the area nearer to Catonsville isnt... and the area between Columbia/Ellicott City is good. I hear Columbia isnt as good as it was a few years back, and there is a huge section of it where they have lots of sexual predators :P

If you need help getting around the area, PM me! I need friends in this state :P

Krikit: LOL! Thank god for good neighbors or else stuff will just get lost. I was told by the USPS supervisor that if I want them to stop delivering at my door and to hold items in the post office to write them a letter. But I think Ill start filling out our mailing address to my in-laws...

We live in Federal Hill Baltimore. My husband's choice really. Im still trying to get over the fact that the house shakes when the mailman drives through the skinny road :P And that we have to be home by 7 or we stand to park a good 15 minute walk away :P

Well regardless, if you guys ever want to come downtown for dinner, come over! Or if youre ever in the harbor, we are prolly a good 10-15 minute walk away. My husband's not very social, but we are both very very very nice!
